I bought this coin off Teletrade for a cool 700$ , then a year or two later , I sold it on Teletrade for 1250$ ...........
I was not comfortable with the tone , as I thought it was questionable ...........
shows what I know - the coin now resides in a PCGS MS66 FBL holder , prolly easily saleable @ over 10 grand ;

Nice job
any Tom , Dick , or Harry could of bought it off T.T and made the big score.........
it's confirmed now though :
I officially have sold in PCGS MS 65 FBL a 49-D , 50-D , 51-D , 52-D , 53-D , and a 54-D -
only to have them show up later in nice neat , really cool PCGS MS 66 FBL holders ........

What other under-graded MS65 FBL D-mints might you have available for sale?

Well you were right about the tone being highly suspect...

Oh that cuts deep ..........., several of the one's that got upgraded I tried myself to do ........ you just never know what can happen on any given day ......
I do know that the majority of the D mints that got the boost were resubmitted by two of the Kings of Franklins ; R. Tomaska and Steve Leber -
they got that magic touch !

So people pay like $8000 more for the same coin just because it has a different grade on the label?
darn good suggestion ..........I try - hell , I spend many , many hours each week looking high and low . And I did make some money on them -
but take the Monster 52-D I sold in a 65 holder , it was a dream coin and I doubt I will ever see another with the lime green and purple that one had .
Sold it for 900$ 8 or 9 years ago ............ Leber got it in a 66 holder and got a whopping $5000 for it .
I would have prolly bet anybody a thousand bucks that coin would never get a 66 @ PCGS ..........
again - what the hell do I know

It could be worse..
It is a nice coin, next time you buy a 65, make sure it isn't a 66 before selling.

Now with the grading thing, you know one day it's a ms66, the next it's a 65FBL, and then a 66+ no FBL...

Same coin - different holder ; go figure ............
<< <i>PP, I've got a nice '48-D in MS65FBL...
no doubt I will soon see it in a 66 holder
<< <i>I hear also, PP, that your former 1951-D MS66FBL is now MS66+FBL? >>
yes , yes it is ; now the very first 1951-D MS66 FBL "Plus" ........I couldn't be happier for the new owner !
Of coarse that particular magnificent coin (which I believe has no peers) was earmarked for Ronyahski's "A" set ;
he could have gone from a 51-D that is one of the weakest coins in his set - to one that would be one of the strongest coins in his set ;
but the man who was known for throwing countless thousands of dollars to high rolling Franklin dealers,
cheeped out on me and refused to pony up for the coin . A coin like the 51-D that Plused comes around once every 15 or 20 years :
he will regret not buying it for many a year to come

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
<< <i>It's official. You Franklin guys are the most whacked in the hobby

Was there ever really any doubt?
Actually, truthfully, IMO there are LOT'S of whackjobs that collect coins. Let's face it, anybody that has been in this hobby for a while has met more than their fair share of other collectors that are... how shall I put this?... of uneven temperament.

But M.J is right - Franklin fellers are an oddball bunch of the strangest order ; they can be as friendly and kind as could be - then turn on you like
a dime and start spittin' brimstone and fire
10 years or so ago , I bought the only known MS66 1952-D PCGS Franklin from John Wooten , it was a pop. 1
........of coarse I sold it (doubled my money) , and you know what happened to it ?
yep - It ended up in a PCGS MS 67 holder !!!!!! and currently resides in the PCGS Registry # 1 Franklin set .......

Sometimes it's fun enjoying someone else's good fortune, don't you think?

Hey PawPaul
I have 18 1962-1963 Franklins from (1) submission I made last year...there were 19 total but I drilled a hole in the slab of one of them and screwed it on the wall of the bar I go to to play darts........
.......Anyway all (19) graded PCGS MS64 .........NO Bell Lines........none 0...kaput..
Anyway I'm thinkin that if I send them to you and you sign them.( $5 bucks each)..they will sell big time......to folks thinking of the future...
........oh then when they start toning.......the sky is the limit

Reb,
I'm quoting facts that have taken place over the last two decades ..........coins like the one's mentioned are very hard to find , and you have to know
when you find/see them just how special they are .
If you build a reputation for paying more then most others -then the coins will often find you !
in the old days I used to comb the coin shows for raw Franklins , those days are gone
Look at the bright side of things. You did not have to pay a lot of taxes on the gains. Just think what you would have owed on that 8k upgrade!!

Gosh!I guess that I took a shining to Franklin Halves just a little too late.I've been known to spend a little too much on some coins myself.High grade Frankies have become my favorite obsession.Trouble is,their kinda expensive!

A.T. Franklins I encounter have subdued luster .
I have several PCGS MS65 FBL 49-D's to take it's place .......but no MS66

Yeah, well, let's not forget that a LOT of the mint set toned '49-D's (and by this I mean the generic toned coins, not the exceptionally pretty ones) have all the luster of gray mud.
