Is it just me or does the new Trueview .....

... background and blue logo appear washed out and more, well for want of a better word, 'downscale'?

I do not care for the new background at all either. The old one was just fine imho.

I was a big fan of the trueviews. It was a steal at $5 -$10 years ago. I dont think the quality has gone down (price has gone up though). But with other photographers charging less and getting better at the art I have switched.

I still think it would benefit us all if they would include trueviews as a standard.

Looks a bit cheesy as at first I thought it was just for Genuine Only's.

I happen to agree with the above comments and prefer the older version of the True View background.

Here is a recent CBH I got done with the new True View background......with the old version below.

Old version definately looks better. If it isnt broke, dont fix it. This also has the effect of making peoples collection of trueviews not match anymore. Hopefully they will get enough complaints and change it back.

I like the new one - less clutter and PCGS advertising background

I really don't mind the new background... but if I had a lot of the old trueview pics in my Registry sets I'd be pretty upset that any new images I paid the big cash to get done wouldn't match what I already had.

Wow, I remember all the complaints about the old background when if first came out, and how it was cheesy that "PCGS" was plastered all over like tacky wallpaper. Now that everyone is used to it, they don't want to change to a cleaner, plain background.

Count be as one who LIKES the new background better. Cleaner, more tasteful appearance, and does not distract from the coin.

I like the newer version much better than the older version, but I haven't submitted any of our coins to be imaged yet, so I'm not affected by varying images.

I like the black background with the image of the insert better than either of the TrueView images.

Coin Collecting is all about consistency. You wouldn't slap an F20 1893-S into your "complete" collection of MS64 Morgans now would you?

The collectors that have TrueView photo's in their registry sets will now have a sore thumb to look at when they go to upgrade coins.

I'm not particularly "fond" of PCGS's decision to go "blue" since the website changed to a blue background but I suppose there's a reason for it.

    Hi all,

One of the reasons for the change was to support larger images. The original background was a 9.8 megapixel image, new TrueViews are 16.7 megapixels. This is of course due to the changes in technology, new cameras etc. Upscaling the old template would've made it a bit of a blurry mess on the large size images, so a background redesign was needed anyway. Yes, my goal was to make it more understated to draw more attention to the coin itself. We did realize that some would like the change, others wouldn't (just like when the first TrueViews came out). Ultimately I think people will get used to the background, just like people are used to the variety of PCGS slab labels. Your comments, suggestions and constructive criticisms are welcome.
    Thanks
    Phil

The blue background looks like an uncorrected white balance problem. It interferes with the way the coin likes by causing any bluish highlight in the coin to be exaggerated. You need a white or a black background that is completely neutral.

    Hi everyone,
I've taken your comments to heart and prepared a new template based on the old one. It's essentially the same, but with a few modifications. Here's an example:

Changing recent TrueViews to this background is a fairly simple operation.

The new modification is a vast improvemtn over the plain white background with blue highlights.

Thanks for listening, Phil, and for working with us. I know we can be brutal critics. It's tough love. You won't please everyone with any change.

IMO a subtle, texture-like background, such as the one you have been using, is more handsome than either of the two you proposed. The second is better but would be much nicer if the background didn't fade between the images.

I understand Truviews have a new, improved resolution but I don't understand why the same background can't be enhanced and continue in use. Many like collections and sets to have a consistent look and feel.

After looking a bit closer at the old vs the new, I can;t help but notice that the shadow which appears at the edge of the coin appears much larger and bolder on the new background than it did on the old background.

Compare that shadow on these two images posted earlier:
