...with the beautiful image of liberty with great eagle reverses like years gone by? instead of all the dead

presidents? it happens with bullion coins, but why not with circulated coinage? in fact even those are just

copied designs from yesteryear! image

I'm not the nostalgia type but if the Mint were to pay homage to designs gone by, I'd love to see the Fugio and Bar Cents resurrected. Lady Liberty and the Eagle have been done to death, IMO.

I would like to see the artistry of newly minted coins vastly improved. Currently the images I see on coins are akin to commercial art, as opposed to fine art. I could also do without the presidents' heads, at least in the current format.

Modern U.S. coinage design is pathetic. There is no art at all ..... The closest modern circulating coin with art is the Sacagawea. Cheers, RickO

When the glories of Liberty are embodied on our coinage we have true Liberty. When we make gods of leaders the downfall of the civilisation has begun. Just look at the history of coinage, Greeks, Romans, etc.

It's not only the designs that suck but the fact they have been made irrelevent
by inflation. The largest coin won't buy anything at all any longer. When I was
a boy the largest coin would buy breakfast and a newspaper. You used to be
able to avoid going for your wallet in crowds and the germs of dozens of people
who used a rag buck before you. So we advertise where we keep our money and
    exchange germs.

Since the coins are worthless they tend to build up in our pockets and weight
us down. Then every few months we have to cart them off to the bank and trade
    them for real money.

Totally agree. Out with DPs. BUT, I'd like to open some competition to the many gifted artists who are out there today. I personally only know of Daniel Carr, but believe there must be other interested artists who could come up with new designs that would knock our socks off--if we could keep politics out of the game.

...the problem is there are TOO TOO many agencies to satisfy with the designs. they escape me at the moment

but RWB certainly knows the ones. i'm having a 'senior moment' on my thought processing. image

Yes, I wish the mint would start minting coins made of silver and gold for circulation.

Congress has largely subsumed the historic role of the Mint Director and Secretary of Treasury in circulating coinage designs. If Congress can be convinced to revert to the Coinage Law of 1890, there is hope.

Rather than make belittling comments about people who cannot do what you want, why not find a piece of paper, envelope, pen and stamp and write to your members of Congress?

...good idea, roger but i don't think they would give it much eyeballing with all the 'emergencies' going on

    all at once now. image

Let's start by emailing our congressmen and asking them to disband CCAC (they don't seem to be doing a good job). From the CCAC site:

"Mission and Purpose of the CCAC

The CCAC was established in 2003 by Congress under Public Law 108-15 to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on the themes and designs of all US coins and medals. The CCAC serves as an informed, experienced and impartial resource to the Secretary of the Treasury and represents the interests of American citizens and collectors."

Wishing won't change anything. Congress says what they are going to look like and at the speed they want to run them out the door simple low relieve design is going to be the norm.

...and millions of letters probably won't do a thing either. Each party has their own gods on money and they want to leave it that way and no way will this current group get rid of FDR or Kennedy off of coinage.
