  • I don't think it's possible to grade the coins due to the picture quality...what set up are you using? image

    1887-S MS63 PL
    1889-S MS62 DMPL
    1898-S MS63 DMPL
    1899-S MS63 PL

I really like that 89-s, looks like some real deep mirrors, good cameo, and the rim toning accentuate the contrast. Great group overall!! I did have to change at least one grade so I wouldn't guess the same as High Relief on all four. image
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

    Todd:

I think they missed on the '87-S. In the photos it looks better than the other three, but what about in person?

You will see them next week to decide what you think. The 87 and 89 are free of any major hits. They are clean but a little baggy. The 89 has the hit where the chin meets the neck, but with a DMPl pop of 47 I can live with that.

I think the 89-s is without question the real rarity of the lot and DMPL was the right call. I am the Liberal on this one calling it a 64DMPL and that is okay. I think we all forget that DMPL fields make hits and contact marks far worse than they really are.

The fields in the 87-s are not very deep- at least from the image and I am not being critical of the image- it is more of a plug as to why collectors need to see coins in hand before grading and buying- I thought the 87-s would possibly not even obtain a PL designation. It is an attractive coin, worthy of a better grade-unless there are issues that we are just not able to see- again, no reflection on the image

Now we have the real problem in terms of grading the 98-s and 99-s- terrific coins- and perhaps the fields are strong enough to distinguish between DMPL and PL if seen in hand-

    Terrific coins
