Mark Feld deserves a thread of his own

After reading an eye popping thread about the poor service and problems dealing with the " King of Cameos", let me tell a good story about how it should be done.
Several years ago during the market peak, I purchased a sweetheart Capped Bust half for a type set from Mark Feld. As usual, it was better in hand than his website showed and was eye candy to behold.
As I was leaving the wannabee dealer side of this hobby, I decided to liquidate some of my collection as well. I emailed Mark about wanting him to have 1st shot at the coin. ( I always liked to rebuy my coins from my customers when they sold ).
Mark did not remember the coin and could not locate his archived pics of the coin. He hit Heritage and Ebay for comps and made a cash offer sight unseen, knowing that if he sold it, it would be cherry for grade. His offer was very strong indeed. I shipped him the coin the next day and in 3 days his check was in my bank account.
Now, folks, THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!!
Thanks Mark
Edited to add: Post your Feldini coins or share a great story about a great dealer !!!

Don't own any of them anymore but enjoyed them while I did.
Mark's top shelf.
I ended up selling this coin to a board member a while back. Now I miss it
This is one of my favorite coins. Crossed over from a icg to pcgs holder just to see if it would.

Can you PM me a link about the king of cameos? I'm fairly certain I had a poor experience with him way back when, but am not sure if its the same individual. Just wanting to satisfy my curiosity is all

There is no way to count the number of folks he has helped on the forums over the years.
If you need an honest answer, this is the guy to ask.

Thanks Jack. I had a bad experience with a different seller of cameo coins it turns out. As far as Mark deserving his own thread, I absolutely agree. I've only ever heard outstanding things about him
Mark Feld has been great to me since day one. I remember meeting him at the 2003 ANA show in Baltimore, back in his Pinnacle days. Myself a budding photographer who owned a digital camera for mere months, Mark pulled out a gorgeous, matched set of proof three cent nickels and told me to photograph to my heart's delight. Since then (and before, for that matter), he's been a great source of advice--both relating to coins and other things--in addition to great coins. His solicited and unsolicited feedback on my purchases has greatly helped to train my eye, and at shows he has always given me the opportunity to see his wares. Mark is the fairest of the fair and has a business ethic everyone should envy.
<< <i>Mark is VERY knowlegeable,and will deal with you fairly and honestly.Truly a class act.A true numismatist.JMHO.Lloyd
I wish we had more like him in this sector
<< <i>Does Mark have a website? He sound's like a great guy to purchase nice material from. >>
Yes, this is it.
Oh well at least me and my GF got to hang with the Abraham Lincoln impersonator. I used the term coin show cubicles instead of calling them coin "booths" in front of Abe.
<< <i>Mark Feld saved my life. >>
If I had a third child, he would be named "Mark" or she would be named "Markie".
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Oh heck... let's give him an entire forum of his own
I have yet to have the chance to meet Mark... perhaps one of these days... it would be nice to find out exactly what is so all fired cool about this dude...
Just as I view TPG grades... I don't like 2nd hand info or base anything on other's opinions... and will make my own decisions, thank you very much...
Don't mind me... I'm just a clown
If I may, I offer a few disclaimers, and then a comment about buying back coins from clients..
To my knowledge, I did not sell to or for "jamakin", the two coins he posted, and the images are way too good to have been mine. I have notified him via PM.
I never saved "SoCalBigMark's" life, but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express on more than one occasion. You decide which is better
I did not attend the Whitman show (and finish my business before the show started) - I'm fast, but not THAT fast.
Regarding a dealer making a two way market in the coins he or she handles......
Unless there is an agreement that it will be done, I don't think a dealer has any obligation to make offers on or buy back coins he or she has sold. However, I believe that it should still be done, as a matter of good business and customer service.
For example, if I buy a coin at $2600 and sell it at $3000 and the client wants to trade or sell it back to me at a future date..... Assuming the market hasn't changed, what's wrong with offering to buy it back for the same $2600 or thereabouts? Or taking it on consignment at a slightly higher price? if I believed in the coin at the time I sold it, shouldn't I still believe in it if/when my client offers it back to me?
Generally speaking, I offer to buy back coins at approximately 85% of what I would try to sell them for at the time. Exceptions would be if the coin had been a consigned item of the type I don't typically handle or at a higher price than I would normally ask. And in those instances, I try to make the buyer aware of that at the time I sell it.
I like it when my clients contact me and offer coins I have sold to them. I look at it as a good source of nice coins. Sure I feel badly if I can't offer them a profit or offer them a loss. But making what I think is a fair buy-back offer is sure a lot better than saying "no thanks", or whatever.
Thanks again.
