Funny but the free shipping allways comes back to me when I don't put the postage on the Bubble Pack mailer.

<< <i>I do find it odd that eBay allows a buyer to do a S&H rating when the S&H is free.... >>

Especially when they encourage sellers to do so via listing and FVF discounts. In other words, eBay KNOWS when the shipping is free! BUMS! >>

I have some friends at ebay and I've asked about this: "If the seller is shipping free what is it not an automatic 5-star?"

The problem, I was told, is that there are ebay sellers using 3rd party check-out systems which bypass ebay's ability to determine if shipping is really free.

I'm not defending ebay. I've got my issues with them too. But sometimes there are factors involved beyond those on the surface.

I will admit I am glad that shipping charges are now displayed when posting feedback. I imagine many buyers never bothered to check.

I have deduced from your DSR experiment that it's time to start charging for shipping. This will give your customers a certain level of comfort, knowing that they can honestly rate you for something they've earned. The right to fairly assess your shipping time and charges. And remember, ... if they're not complaining; you're not charging enough. image

<< <i>If I have the item in 7 days or less (I pay within an hour 99% of the time) I will give a 5 otherwise they get a 4.

Uhh... you do realize that the time to you in hand is dependent upon more than just the seller's handling time, right? I've had packages from the coasts take almost 2 weeks to get to me here in the midwest. I have a serious issue with a DSR policy like the one you quote. You're effectively punishing sellers for the pitfalls of the USPS.

Now, if the seller takes a week to ship that's a different matter, but if the seller ships within 3-4 days and it takes another week to get to you, how is that the seller's fault? >>

This doesn't even include the ridiculous amount time it is taking for International shipping at the moment(unless you pay big bucks to prioritize it!!). I shipped an item to a seller in Taiwan. He wanted a payment chargeback when the item did not arrive after 2 weeks. I told him that the USPS was taking up to 6-8 weeks to get packages overseas but he didn't want to hear it. Item arrived promptly at 7 weeks.
I also collect Hockey cards so I purchase a lot of items from Canadian sellers. I know going into the sale that it is probably going to take at minimum 2 weeks to receive my items. So upon receiving the item as long as the item comes as described I give them 5's across the board.

<< <i>For the last month (about 60 auctions), I charged ZERO for shipping. I emailed the seller and thanked them for buying the item as soon as it was sold, I then emailed them and thanked them as soon as it was paid for and shipped every item the day it was paid and notified them of the shipping. I used very high resolution pictures that represented the item exactly as it was. As a result, here's my 30day DSR:

    Item as described, 4.90
    Communication, 4.95
    Shipping Time, 4.95
S&H Charges, 4.95 (EVERY item was shipped free)

With some people you just can't win. I do find it odd that eBay allows a buyer to do a S&H rating when the S&H is free.... >>

eBay buyers have been "empowered" and some of them like to use that power, the same as some post office clerks! Unfortunately, the eBay buyer "power" can be a bit more financially damaging than those pesky postal clerks since you can actually "speak" to the postal clerk!

As for having a DSR for shipping when shipping is free? How stupid of eBay! They push sellers to offer "free shipping" then enable their "power buyers" to discredit you for absorbing those costs! Stupid eBay!

I had free shipping for 6 months straight and my DSR was 4.8 it used to piss me off, so I stopped selling on the bay.

Before I give them a 4 I consider factors such as weekends, holidays and if I get the shipping notification. I do give them the benefit of doubt but if it's 5 days or more before they ship than they're likely to get a 4. Since I can't see the scores I've left I'm guessing that the number of sellers I've dinged on shipping time over the last 100 auctions has only been 1 or 2 so 98% of sellers have done a decent to excellent job of shipping. I don't think I'm out of line there.

Your more genorous than I am. I give the seller one business day to ship. After that I deduct a point for every day worth of delay. I avoid sellers who tell me in their listing that they only ship 1 or 2 times a week.
