Actually, any MS 66 1972 DDO- #2-9 examples (except of course Die #4) are a little harder to come by than you may think in that particular grade. While I would agree a MS 64 example is worth $50, a MS 66 should go in the $100-$150 range. Some would agrue even more.

The bad pictures would have been enough to have chased me away from bidding on that one. You can't even tell if the coin has spots or not.

That is Die #3. Still shows some Class 1 doubling. The prices listed are out of date..

Die #3. Worth $50 or so as is or about $150 in a PCGS holder with the same grade. Someone got hosed!!!

Maybe the buyer is collecting a set of the 72 DDO's and was willing to fork out some serious money?

A certain someone within this very thread is doing the same thing with building a Kennedy set.

The only return I ever had in 500+ sales on eBay was for a DGS-graded 1972 DDO #3. It was clearly marked on the holder, and I specified in the auction description that it was one of the lesser varieties. The guy who bought it returned it because he thought he was getting the one in the Red Book (for $50)... nothing I could do but re-explain the difference, accept the return, refund his money, and move on (at least he left + feedback!).

I relisted it, and stated in the listing that it was not DDO #1, the one in the Red Book, and it resold for almost as much with no problems...
