The "other" 1897 1 in the neck Indian cent

Snow-14. This one is sold, so I don't feel like I'm spamming by posting this. It is pretty tough to find. So tough, that I didn't have an image in my book. Now I do.

Notice the die rust on the reverse too.

S-14. It was known and listed in the book, but without a picture.

Cool I love MPD's, but only focus on the Seated Quarters for now.

The doubling on the 7 and the base of the portrait is strike doubling.

Thanks for posting these, Rick. I look for the Snow-1 all the time and now that I see the pictures of the S-14, I'm certain I've seen one or two before and passed them by. Give me a little time and I'll come up with another example for you (probably not a 65RD, though).

why do you think it was a #1 die punch that caused that?

is not the size of the "mark" in the neck too small to be a part of the #1 die punch?

a small explanation would be awesome.

Yes, I'm sure there are more out there. It's helpful to have a picture to compare.

Why is it a 1 digit? We don't really know for sure, but it seems plausible, given the obvious S1. A lightly entered 1 wouldn't make a full sized impression. Perhaps the die was too hard to accept a deeply impressed 1.
