It's not a very high grade set, and many of the coins were found in lot searching; but it IS a complete set and I am quite proud of it. :-)

Shades of the old blue Whitman folders we had as kids. I wonder how many 17 type I and II's, and possibly 16's we let get by us because we didn't know what to look for back then. When I was a kid these were still in circulation. Maybe 1 in 20 quarters was a Standing Liberty.

Very nice set you have put together and you have a right to be proud of it.

I'll be 62 this coming November 29. Maybe it will be easier to work once you don't have to work. Retirement is always an option.

The dateless coin in question is most definitely a 1916.
    Look at the following:

    Gown detail near the foot.

Intersection of Liberty's head and decorative beading at the border.

Lack of shield rivets and lower obverse star detail in low grades.

If you search some previous forum discussions, you will find more information regarding this subject.

  • Thank you all for your comments! This is a very tough set, and if it wasn't for the fact that I got lucky finding that 1916, I would still have a big hole. It was an absolute blast to put together, and I am sure this is one I will be upgrading for the rest of my life as a numismatist.

The weak rivits on the sheild, the larger arc on the bottom of the skirt on the left side (as you look at it--Miss Liberty's right side), and the fat hair on the left as you view it. Another indicator which only works sometimes is the weak stars and IN GOD WE TRUST.

    Really cool 1916! image
