Gettysburg

After years of reading about three of the most important days in our history, I finally was able to walk some of the battlefield yesterday. I have stood at the Vietnam Wall and traced the names of friends and I was moved at seeing what our troops had to deal with at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy , but I have to say there is something unique in how I felt in the Devils Den or on the Union far left flank on Little Round Top. It is a place to forget about our political differences and remember that, Yankee or Rebel, the brave men who died there were Americans all. As our greatest President said, it is truly hallowed ground.

Very nice, I kept the Antietam, Gettysburg, Grant and Stone Mt. when I sold off my early commem set a while back, I love the history.

Your Gettysburg is an outstanding example, Yellowkid!

As for the battle itself, a purist would take issue with it being a fictional account, but I was moved by the book, "Killer Angels."

Yes, Gettysburg is a very moving place to visit. I had a great-great-uncle in Armistead's division who fell in Pickett's charge and laid on the field for a couple of days before he was carried off to a prison-hospital, and survived to come home.

So you saw where the 20th Maine defended the left flank? See the monument? My favorite part of the battlefield.

Great coins everyone. I especially love the toning on MJ's. I have a relatively clean 64 that I would upgrade in a heartbeat if the right coin came around. Definitely one of my faves in the series.
