How to remove sticker residue from a PCGS slab

What's the best way? The methods I've used in the past have etched the surface of the holder and left it cloudy. Thanks in advance.

    Mike,

    Here is what I use.

    image

I get it at the lumber company. It will not hurt a PCGS slab but it will eat into the plastic on a GSA CC Dollar Holder or a IKE Holder image

Update, just tried it on a NGC slab. No problems.

  • Do NOT use Acetone... you'll ruin the slab..

Rubbing alcohol or if you can get it, nothing beats hexane aka ligroine or petroleum ether.

    goo-gone for sure.

just remember whatever you use, don't use too much, only use enough to get the sticker residue. slabs are not air/water tight so I wouldn't want any excess product to inadvertently get into the seam and possibly damage my coins. apply the product to a paper towel or something instead of squirting it all over the slab.

Goo-gone works fine. The plastic polish I use to remove slab scratches works great too.

And don't forget peanut butter. No kidding, the oils in peanut butter do the job.

unless you like an oily sheen left on your slabs, DO NOT use WD-40 on them. Then again, maybe you like cleaning them twice.

Although many of the other recommendations work fine, I agree with Shamika..... nose oil does it quickly, and you always have it handy. Cheers, RickO

You'll wonder where the sticker went, when you brush your slabs with Pepsodent.

Agree. Just buff the area with a clean cotton T-shirt when you are done to remove the nose grease.

Yes. I learned this trick from more than a few coin dealers. It works and it's always available.

    Hi,

I and my freinds were always concered about what some of these suggestions might do to the slab material over time as one can not "rinse" the slab cuz its not airtight. Many oils oxidise over time and yellow. I use alcohol swabs like this used whe giving an injection. That Meguire's is apparently safe to deal with scratches. I have not been reading much here - has anyone managed to scrtach the unscratchable slab from that other company? Thge claim was something like rough steel wool with 25 pounds of pressure and not finding a hairline. I'd have to see that actually.

    Best,
    Eric

I had a dealer show me one time a nose oil trick on a large cent. Take the oil, rub it on a dull looking coin and presto -chango you have a nice bright lusturous cent image

This was 15 yrs ago, I still have the coin and it looks GREAT!!!!! It has not spotted or changed in any way. It was an AU58 coin by my estimation.
