I'm back but will let someone else talk about the Portland Show. I spent 15 bucks for the new PCGS Grading Guide and that was it. A Darn nice stroll around the floor about three times was had.

    Bear,

This is where I spend most of my time. I'm surprised I have not run into to you in the woods.

    My report:

The shows in my area suck, so I have nothing to report.

Hopefully, I will have a more postive report after next month's PNNA. image

Yea some of the Northwest Dealers were walking the floor trying to get some new material. If I know them though they will buy cheap not so good pieces. image

  • I also heard that it was to expensive and not worth the effort from one of the better known dealers east of the Mississippi.
  • I have to work weekends so no shows for me.

I'll bet if that Dealer would have been in Portland a 1930P MS66FB Merc would not have went home with him. Oh well I can wait to get one. image

  • Did any coin activity take place? With process servers running around with documents in hand, who was interested in coins?

If there is any correlation between the number of coin show reports and the activity at the Portland ANA, "HOT" it was not!
  • I didn't attend because I'm going to Santa Clara next week. However, Dale Larsen from Spectrum (Toningintheblood) called me last night from Portland and told me that the show was mediocre, which is exactly what I would've expected anyway -- and is the primary reason I didn't attend. To be perfectly frank -- I quit participating in mid-winter ANA shows over ten years ago because all of them up to that point in time (all of which I attended) left a lot to be desired from a business point of view. I guess I would go if it was in my area, but other than that, I'm out. Just the opinion of one dealer.

We had a good, not great show. Sales were ok and thankfully, we were able to do a good bit of buying. I say thankfully, because our inventory had gotten lower than we wanted it to be.

My impression of the Heritage sale was that, as a whole, it was very strong.

Odds were against the show being a particularly active and/or strong one, coming just two weeks after Baltimore and a week before Santa Clara. Additionally, PCGS did not do on site grading there - that limited the available supply of coins for dealers such as ourselves, who do much of our purchasing from others who get their (sometimes fresh) coins back at shows.
