This caught my eye on MA Shops site. Is this a 3rd tier grading company, or a European based operation?

    Before someone accuses me of being unfair, I'd like to clarify my position:

    Why would someone create such a service?

    -Because it's profirtable as a business and because encapsulated coins sell for more - no argument there
    - Because by basing it in Central Europe, you make it more accessible to European collectors- argument: PCGS and/or NGC have already announced the opening of a truly active local submission center

    -Because you probably think that the US grading system invented for large cents and expanded to milled coins, is unsuitable for medieval coins, talers and such.

    If so, why copy the same numerical system, down to the holder looks, and doom the effort to failure?

    In that respect, (UK based) CGS has a much more respectable approach, creating a new 100 point system, entirely numerical on copper too, and consistent with UK grading, that is by grading the vast majority of coins from the 18th and 19th century upto 75-80 max, even if the coin is as struck, which doesn't necessarily make it perfect, far from it..

    Good call Dimitri!

    I'd love to see a reputable service in the UK or other European country that has the kind of expertise,
    credibility, assurance standards, easily converted grading standards and marketability as PCGS does in this country.

    This one doesn't look like IT, however. And I still have trouble with CGS standards as they relate to the Sheldon scale.
