My taco bell toner Morgan (one year later)

This was a rather blearly white dollar....and last year I got to messin with some cyanide...and dipped it white, and then cleaned it off well and wrapped it in a taco bell napkin, It sat underneath a stuffed bunny rabbit for one year.

I dont know if the bunny rabbit made a difference, but heres what the coin looks like now. These colors are true...

whats the difference if its a taco bell napkin for 1 year vs a sock sitting in a draw for 100 years?
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
Decent looking morgan though.

The rabbit is F-12.
Ive had him since, maybe 3? My aunt hand sewed his little shirt. She passed away last year age 93
When I cleaned out my parents house...after they had passed, I found Bunny packed far back in the attic. I got all emotional etc etc etc.
so thats why bunny sits there on my desk.
Glad you found Mr. Rabbit. My daughter lost her little stuffed dog toy when she was about 3 and despite a citywide alert it never turned up. I don' think she's over it, still!

I agree. Thanks for sparing the embarrassment.
I like the faceless bunny. Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode.

Yo quiero Taco Bell!
<< <i>Yes, I've seen the Bunny Butt toned look before, very characteristic!
Bunny Butt toning. Ha. Now that's funny.

I agree. No practical difference whatsoever.

All in all, I think its a pretty nice Morgan, and Im really not in love with the series at all. I like the way the reverse looks. BTW, anyone want to venture a Grade?

There is a significant difference in the stability of the thin film that creates the toning. This coin, and most AT coins, will likely continue to tone rapidly and in a year or so will look horrid. A coin that toned over 100 years will have a much more stable layer of oxidation that, after being removed from its mildly reactive environment, will remain relatively unchanged for a very, very long time.
This importance of this difference cannot be overestimated for a collector who intends to hold their coins for a long time.

<< <i>How is storing a coin in a 2X2 kraft paper coin envelope any different that storing it in a paper napkin? I see no real difference so I would have to say NT or MA (market acceptable). >>
The main difference which matters to some people, is that one form of storage was intended for coins and the other wasn't.
I actually like the look of it now, much better than the harsh white of a cleaned coin. I realize that any alteration is considered coin doctoring, but honestly I think he did the world a favor. I love coins that look natural, and I think it has been restored to a natural look. I always felt that the problem with coin doctors is taking a coin and making it appear to be worth more than it actually is. This can be through AT, cleaning, repairing, etc. If there is really no problem with the coin (hairlines etc.) I have no issues with restoring it to a natural looking state. Either way the coin has been doctored. Is the coin MORE doctored because of the cleaning it has been through, or the restoration of the toning?
Bright cleaned coins really bother me. And no offense to the memory of the OP, but the eyeless bunny kinda freeks me out too!

I know people that put dipped silver coins in kraft paper 2X2 envelopes to give them some color to subdue the effects of any cleaning. Are those coins AT due to intent?

Looks subdued and "off" to me.
Now, given how some others have shown the TB napkin toning to go, there is a chance that this will look better in another year or so.
Give the bunny another chance
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I'll also state that adding "chemicals" to achieve toning is a strict no-no but I don't really have a problem with "well planned or intentional" storage and given the fact that it is extremely difficult to detect whether or not toning is "original", I'll generally pass on paying premiums for those items.
But, "It is what it is" and as long as folks are paying premiums for toned coins, then I suppose there will always be someone to satisfy that need.

Some feel that intent matters, while others don't. Depending upon what is done to the coin, I don't think a coin should be labeled AT, solely due to intent.
For example, one collector places a coin in an envelope or an album, without thinking or knowing it will tone. Another collector places a coin in an envelope or album because he thinks or knows it will tone. Both coins tone. I think it would be ludicrous to call one of them AT and the other NT.

I go with Mark on this. Someone "tones" a coin when they forget that it was on a tray that goes in an oven while someone else intentionally puts it on a tray to go into the oven. AT both times.
Someone "forgets" and their coins get laundered and toned (maybe they forgot to separate the whites and reds so the coins come out pink
Someone uses a Wayte Raymond album to store their coins because that is what they have. Someone else knows that the albums will tone a coin over time. NT both times, imho.
