<< <i>Barndog - love that color and surfaces. My guess is the softness on the shield held it back. What say you? >>
major strike issues on this coin is correct. It has the luster you would expect on a 63
All that doesn't matter, though. This coin is quite a desirable piece because of its status as an intriguingly rare die remarriage.

That looks better than ms61 to me..?
Hi there,
Those are awfully low Mint State gradess so who cares?

PCGS didn't like it, questioning the color. I did an acetone rinse and it all came off! Those boys at PCGS are pretty sharp.

I believe these coins should be graded with the same system or care as the other grades included in this "new deal."

Many of the above examples don't feel like the 60's and 61's Don was referring to.

Hi Lance,
So then what are they?

Hi Lance,

That's a good question, Eric. Obviously grading experts feel they are 60/61. Don's point was that MS60/61 coins are uncirculated, bag-marked coins that can't achieve a plus-rating because they all lack the eye appeal and condition for upper-end excellence.
I get his point, sort of. But BarnDog has shown us many examples that don't seem to fit. Maybe they're undergraded 62/63's? Or sliders?

In my case that is the only MS grade I can afford.
MS60 with a green bean:
No luster breaks so a True MS coin. Appears to be no signs of prior dipping and original skin. I'd put this in the + column for the grade but too many hits to achieve a higher grade.
Its now PCGS 63 after two submissions.

That double eagle looks market graded----wouldn't a '+' designation be double-dipping?

But of the 60's - a 2...what..3? point move...they are "now" either sliders or 63's...would mean they are overgraded now? Chould there suddenly be a number of incorrectly graded coins as a result of this change with grading? Should there be? Grade is grade, no? Should a change like this change the grades of coins already in slabs? And somone mentioned a 61 with a green bean - that is an animal that PCGS can now not create, yes? Same for NGC* (yes, that is an eye appeal* but still a designation)?
Best,
Eric

Hi there Becoka,
I was kidding - I believe there should be + in MS 60 and MS 61 - IF there are to be +'s.
Best,
Eric
