Break out or crossover?
What is the best way to handle submitting coins for regrade? I have some NGC that I want in PCGS holders, some I believe will grade higher some I would be happy with the current grade.
Others I have in PCGS holders that I would like to have regraded. How do you handle these situations?
I know they are not popular lately, but if I have a gold CAC bean, do you leave it or regrade it?

For NGC coins you want in PCGS holders, I would suggest the PCGS crossover service, under which you submit the coins in their current holders. Any time you crack a coin out and submit it, you risk an unpleasant surprise.
For NGC coins which you feel are under-graded, I'd suggest submitting them to NGC for re-grade - PCGS crossover service does not allow you to include a higher minimum grade for crossover. And for PCGS coins that you feel are under-graded, try the PCGS re-grade service. If I had a CAC gold sticker coin. I would leave it as is.
If you are not an expert, before you try any of the above, I'd recommend having a qualified person examine your coins for you to see if he or she thinks they are worth submitting for crossover or re-grade.
As for crossovers as a collector I don’t see the point of going between PCGS and NGC. I can see getting nice coins graded by one of the “big two” if they are in second tier or lower holders. To me the coin is what matters is coin, not if it’s in PCGS or NGC holder.
When I was a dealer, I'd have customers call up about a coin, and niether of us could remember if it was in a PCGS or NGC holder. Both of us could describe the coin in detail, but could not remember the grading service.
Brace for some likely lower grades from PCGS.
I'd leave the gold bean alone. It will always be highly regarded, IMO.
Lance.
Send them in under the PCGS crossover service, and allow at least one grade lower by PCGS. Sometimes, if you honestly grade your coin, you need to give PCGS more than one grade down allowance. I have seen NGC 58s that are truly only XF 45. Be generous with the downgrade amounts, lest you will need to pay again in the future, for another crossover. Believe me, I learned from experience.
CAC Gold stickers should be left alone, and not just because they look better than the green ones.
