Yes... I had JUST NOW opened the tape, and it revealed the 2001 Bowman instead of the Bowman's Best. image

At least it says "01 BBest" on my invoice. What should we do? For the time being, I'm not touching those packs. I'm assuming we'll work it out with Steve later.

As for the rest, PREPARE FOR RIPPING! I won't be scanning until later tonight, if anything. I will post my results though. It's gonna take me a while. I'm ripping:

    (4) 1985 Topps Vending
    (8) 2001 Topps Traded
    (8) 1985 Topps Football
and on hold are the (8) 2001 (not) Bowman's Best

I got the wrong packs and didn't even realized it until I read your comment. Of course, I already ripped mine open and they were full of junk. I did email Steve though, perhaps something can be worked out. Ugh.

I had one last pack of 78 OPC that I hadn't opened that had Jim Palmer showing. Held off to take it to work to open it there... I got a Mikey like dude that I make sample a piece of gum from all the old packs I get. Needless to say, this 32 year old gum was just as bad as expected. Anyhow, even though I had some decent, albeit crappy oc cards before, I pulled this crappy o/c cards as well. Think I might have felt better if I had gotten nothing.

really solid rip for me.... especially since i only got 3 packs.. sorry don't have a scanner right now

    84 topps
hit a marino.. but off center top to bottom about 70/30
Roger craig- might sub.. prob an 8 with a shot at a 9

    81 topps - dud

    86
    Reggie white - really sharp card hopfully a 9 perhaps a 10
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here
  • Got 3 packs of 75 minis. Centering was all over the place. Only two decent cards I hit were the Jim Rice RC and a Claudell Washington. Both are in route for a mini sub. Will post the results and scans when I get them back. Thanks again Bunker for getting this together.

Okey-dokey, I'm done ripping for the night. Overall I would rate this as a B- for me. Here are the highlights:

    (4) 1985 Topps Vending - Centering was all bad... all gravitating towards the bottom-right. Out of four boxes, I pulled:

    (2) McGwire - both slightly OC, nothing higher than an 8
    (3) Clemens - better centering, but one had a gouge out of the right edge. I may squeak a 9 out of one of the other two.
    (2) Puckett - both slightly OC, nothing higher than an 8
    (3) Ryan - all OC really bad... none worth subbing
    (4) Ripken - all are 80/20 t/b... SUCK!! I also pulled four Ripken AS, and all are solidly centered, but i can buy a 10 for less than $10, so I'm not subbing them.

    (8) 2001 Topps Traded - This was a pretty fun rip, I may pick up a full box. No Pujols and/or Ichiro, but pulled a solid Peavy, and a Chrome Reyes and Rollins. Subbing all three. I also pulled:

    (10) Chrome
    (1) Chrome RC
    (9) Reprint
    (3) Chrome Reprint
    (1) Gold
    (1) Gold Reprint
    (2) Who Would Have thought
    (1) Jersey - Wilken Raun (Who?)

    (8) 1985 Topps Football - These packs were pretty haggard. Gum was soaked through the gum card, and sometimes stuck to the NEXT card. Zero star-power. Most were OC. Corners/Edges/Color was pretty decent though. the solid cards that I'm subbing are:

    49ers Team Leaders #148
    Warren Moon Sticker #87
    Dan Marino Sticker #69

Now... these wrong packs "(8) 2001 Bowman instead of bowman's Best" are staring at me... teasing me... calling me mean names (I am rubber, they are glue). What I WANT to do is rip them so I can regret it later... but according to my calculations, that would be ripping BBCE off because these packs (according to BBCE prices) are valued slightly higher than the Bowman's Best. So with that said, I will try to make it through the night without ripping them, and see what happens after i contact him tomorrow to see what he wants us to do.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go prepare my large march Special Sub! image

I apparently added the word "Best" to the sign up list by mistake. The price we paid was for what we received. If you look at the SMR values below you will see that what we received (2001 Bowmans Baseball) has better odds of pulling a beter value card than the 2001 Bowmans Best Baseball.

I just want to repeat that the price you paid was for the 2001 Bowmans Baseball...not the 2001 Bowmans Best Baseball.

If anybody wants to return their packs (even if you opened them) I will pay you the money out of my pocket...THIS IS NOT BBCE's FAULT...it is mine

SMR Values for the 2001 Bowmans Baseball: (What was received)

    264 Albert Pujols (R) 70- 95- 325
    264 Albert Pujols (R) Gold 240 440 700
    361 Justin Morneau (R) 5 10 35
    397 Jake Peavy UER (R) 6 13 45
    430 Jose Reyes (R) 12 20 45
    430 Jose Reyes (R) Gold 30 50 95

The SMR Value for the 2001 Bowmans Best Baseball:

    162 Ichiro Suzuki (R) 15 35 75
    166 Justin Morneau (R) 20 30 65
    174 Albert Pujols (R) 85 140 325
    178 Jake Peavy (R) 12 20 50

If anyone is not wanting their 2001 Bowman packs, I would be happy to purchase them for the price paid from BBCE plus shipping. Unopened packs, of course! Would be interested in up to 10 packs!
    Thanks!

As I was saying, I wanted to rip these so I can regret it later... lo and behold, that rip SUCKED!! lol

I think my best card was a Matt Holiday, and maybe a Carlos Zambrano & Josh Hamilton Gold Sig. Oh well...

Bunker, thanks for yet another FUN group rip! I'll be sitting on the porch waiting for the April Rip to roll around! image

I bought a box of the '01 from Steve about a week before the group rip was announced, and I agree that it was a fun rip. Between my 5 packs and the box I pulled a regular Pujols, a chrome Pujols, an Ichiro/Pujols, a Reyes, a gold chrome Soriano, and a mess of reprints and chrome reprints. The Reyes and the Pujols' are in a box to Newport Beach, but I forgot to send along that Soriano....

Got back from the Sun Times show late late late last night... picked up my mail this evening... still no packs and paid last Tuesday image

Emailed BBCE, but no response yet!

Looking forward to ripping these bad boys... albeit I won't be ripping any 2001 Bowman's Best for the GEM Ichiro... oh well, a GEM Pujols Bowman will have to suffice image
  • Here are my pulls from a couple packs of Topps Mini's.

    image

    image
  • Here are from my two vending boxes of 85 Topps, a vast majority of the cards were off-center T/B. I was hoping for a Mac and Rocket but got two of one of my favorite players,Kirby, and a couple gradeable commons(unsure if I'll sub them or not). The Puckett's and Carew are getting graded and going to my PC.

Got into the office today and this was waiting for me:

    image

    I added some stuff.

I opened a couple of packs to see if there was anything good -- have a nicely centered Hakeem from the Fleer basketball with a huge chunk on the side. I've been thru 8 packs of 81T so far and haven't come across one card that I would be confident would get a 9, much less a 10. The rest will have to wait until tonight.

I decided to crack two more packs (like the degenerate I am) and pulled a 79O Ozzie Smith that is either OC/MC or diamond cut...looks more like it's diamond printed...

I leveled it out in Photoshop, and it looks like a miscut, not diamond cut or misprinted. The sides are straight with the print, but the top and bottom cuts are sloped pretty bad. It should sell fine raw.

Fun rip. Like most, 78-79 centering was ok to horrible.

    95 Bowman's Best was a fun rip.

I'm looking for 95BB refractors to fll my set if anyone else ripped this.
