Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollar
It seems like there is alot of anticipation for the November release of the Lincoln PResidential dollar. The whole presidential dollar program has been a flop, but it seems like there is hype and anticipation for the Lincoln dollar. I see more interest with the Abe dollar than other presidents, but it is not like everyone was scrambling for George Washington dollars and isn't George just as popular and big as Abe? Personally, I think it would take some small production numbers to drive any kind of premiums on the Lincoln dollars. Any thoghts on what kind of success the Abe dollar will bring and could this have any impact on jump starting the presidential dollar program as a whole?

However, a lot of the interest in the Washington was the sheer novelty of the series. I do not foresee a huge interest in the circulating Abe.

The proof and uncirculated dollars from last year are still doing well.

I think that the Abraham Lincoln dollar will receive more interest than the other pieces, like Pierce and Buchanan, but I don't see it as a world beater that will prompt collectors to scramble to get one.
As for George Washington, I think that his stature has declined among historians and the public in recent years, and I think that is DEAD WRONG. If had not been for George Washington, there probably would not have been a United States of America. We would not have won the Revolutionary War, and without Washington the Constitution would have had a much harder time getting off the ground.
Washington really was “the indispensable man” of that era. His leadership held the Revolutionary War effort together during its darkest times. He was the prototype the framers had in mind when they created the presidency, and his handling of the office set the standard for his successors for many years.
Why is Washington out of favor? First, he was a slaveholder. Despite that fact that he came to dislike the institution later in life, and set all of his slaves free when he died, he still has the stigma. People, including some modern historians, need to understand that you can’t pull historical figures out of their time, and apply modern values to them. Freeing his slaves was a radical move for Washington’s time, and it should be recognized as such.
The same applies to Lincoln. Some of his racial comments would be considered racist by today’s standards, but in his time he pushed the march to freedom forward. Frederick Douglas once called Abraham Lincoln “a first rate second rate man” because he was not a radical abolitionist on slavery. Later Douglas found out that he was wrong, and came to admire Lincoln for his leadership. The same should be said of today’s Lincoln critics.
And yes, I’ll say, it some of the current bunch in Washington are dedicated pushing the cause of freedom backwards. They should be called “Regressives.”
"REGRESSIVES" I like that!
I have lost all interest in the "Presidential Coins" and have sold or traded all of the one's I had . I still have a few of the GW MEL ones, but will even sell them when the price comes back up

I call them "political nihilists," for obvious reasons. But I suspect we are talking about different people.

Last years 4 different reverse design cents, the dollar silver commemorative, 2010 shield cents and now a 2010 Presidential dollar.
What a set to put together and have them all graded the same.

I knew it would happen.
