I need two quarters to complete my set of early quarters. The 1796 and the 1823. Neither of which I will ever attain I am sure, but I would sure like to see what you all have. I will live vicariously through you!

I apologize to the long time members on the board because I have posted this coin at least a half dozen times over the years, but it is my only 1796 quarter and I am fulfilling the request of another member-

Mine falls into the "affordable" category, being heavily worn, but at least I have one that isn't holed or tooled. It's also the the scarcer B-1 variety.

  • Nice for a AG... I think

What does the reverse of your 1796 look like, QuarterCollector, because that coin is much nicer than the typical AG3.

This was one of the prettiest I've ever owned. In a PCGS AU58 holder.

I just posted this 1796 Quarter on a "What is your lowerst graded PCGS coin" thread. I bought it raw over 20 years ago from a Boston bid wall, The Worthy Coin Company. At the time there was also EF example offered at the same sale, but I could not afford that one. This one is a PCGS VF-25. One well-known coin dealer has been after me for 20+ years to sell it to him so I guess it must be an nice example for the grade.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I suspect that the AG3 and F2 specimens both have reverses that solidly represent the grade on the holder.
  • As requested, here is a picture of the reverse.

    Don, your 1796 was outstanding.

PCGS has graded 7 Ms64's and 7 higher. But I sure like the looks of that one!
