Blatantly obvious AT coin for sale locally

Should I buy it? the guy is asking stupid money for it, but I feel trash like that should be taken out of holders. Would PCGS reimburse me for what I paid for it just to get it out of their holder?

I do not think that this course of action is likely to result in your personal or monetary satisfaction.

It appears that you and PCGS don't always see eye to eye. So they might think the coin is perfectly fine, even if you feel it is obviously AT. And they might be right.

If that's the case, rather than buying the coin or ignoring the situation entirely, why not PM or email Don Willis and provide him with the pertinent details about the seller you mentioned.

Edited to add: I can't find that seller on Ebay under the name you provided.

Yeah, go tell Don and let us know what the course of action is.....or, at least, go get photos of the coin since you say it is for sale locally.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I would buy the coin and send it under pcgs's warranty?

    My advice is:

Unless you are a professional grader, have seen hundreds if not thousands of toned coins and have money to blow, my advice is to just............ fugetaboutit!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

You don't need to be a professional grader to know it's AT. No natural toning is holographic. And I have seen thousands of toned Morgans. I'll PM don about what I should do

Just being the image's advocate for a second but the Guarantee is for Authenticity and Grade where does color come in the mix?

I don't know but it may qualify as altered surfaces.
Edit: Nevermind I see what you're talking about.

For those that may not of got my point is that PCGS graded a coin, slabbed it and Guarantied it at one point in time.
Are they liable under their warrantee for the actions of others that alter their product after the fact?

If they "GENUINE" any of my coins, with color as a reason, they better guarantee color in their slab (though, I do agree with your "after the fact" that they shouldn't be accountable)

No, but who said it was done after the fact?

But who can prove it wasn't if the OP buys it and sends it in for the guarantee.

This seller has his coin sales listed as "private" in his feedback, and the other items can be viewed.-----------BigE

Mark, I think some members are saying that this seller somehow tones the coins after they have been slabbed

That is incorrect....he AT's the coins and then sends them in to the TPGs. They are very deceptive and I would imagine a half dozen to a dozen of his best stuff initially made it into both NGC and PCGS holder. They quickly caught on and now to my knowledge I haven't seen him sell one of his certified creations in 6 to 12 months. So it's good that the TPGs caught on but it wasn't before he rake in some serious cash with the coins he was able to get holdered. image

The Morgan Maruader posted was one of them that he himself bought...I called fowl on the coin and said it wouldn't holder based soley on who he bought it from...afterall the colors and toning progession are quite good. In the end the coin bagged and we all learned just how good some of the doctors had become with banded rainbows. I must say though that the AT coins I have seen in hand with those particular bands of color were easy to label as fake......while luster shows through the color....their is a difference in the quantity and quality of the luster and it does have an affect on the cartwheel effect.

I didn't see any pcgs or ngc graded coins he is currently selling? I know this seller has had some obvious AT coins in pcgs and ngc holders in the past that he has sold but have only seen raw coins he's selling as of lately.

Obviously, professional graders DID think it was authentic so as I said either ready to lose your shirt since PCGS just might give it the go ahead.

Exactly...they caught on.....I am happy about that I just wish we could get the bad apples off the street but this clown is just one of many doctors out their that have successfully gotten their creations into legit holders.

There is a current forum member selling AT coins in third world slabs......somehow that doesn't make me any happier image

Blatantly obvious tarnish usually does not get slabbed (there are exceptions). However, the coin doctors (those who are REALLY good) have perfected the process over the years, and many will pass the closest scrutiny. Cheers, RickO
