If The Big One™ announcement is so significant, do we run the risk of making our other slabbed coins

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I, like all others, am awaiting The Big One™ announcement with baited breath. I will literally be on the other side of the world, traveling for The Man, but will be continually checking the AP wires for the announcement. This will be a monumental announcement, indeed.

However, as an owner of some coins in <gasp> another service’s slabs, I am now shaking in fear as to whether the value of those coins might drop like a stone if The Big One™ announcement is as significant as we expect it to be.

Is anyone considering the potential impact on their “other” slabbed coins in advance of the announcement? Is it possible to short my NGC slabs in the market?

Also, what about bbo PCGS vs abo PCGS ( bbo = before big one, abo = after big one)
Edited to add: talking bbo and abo PCGS slabs here.

  • Come on people get it together. Pcgs made the new coin facts seem like it was the biggest thing since sliced bread. Look at how many of you use coin facts or honestly care about coin facts but yet pcgs still thinks its a huge deal and simply groundbreaking. If the new announcement is any where as huge as coin facts is then its really not going to matter to much to most of you is it ??

Serious answer to the questions: there is a very good likelihood that the big one will create a reason for lots of reholdering which could be a "big one" for shareholders. --Jerry

I'm concerned they're going to come up with something like a new grading system or slab, which will require reholdering of existing PCGS certified coins. So you should worry if you have PCGS slabs too. Now I hope you feel better.

Don't forget to hedge for the possibility that PCGS's "The Big One™" is countered shortly thereafter by NGC's "The Bigger One™".

I would find it hard to believe that anyone is losing sleep over the big announcement. If they are, they have much bigger issues they should be concerned with.

Andy, while I doubt that we could do so, perhaps we should try to trademark "The biggest one" now?image

I must have missed something. You all seem to think the Big One at PCGS has something to do with new holders, or with a new grading system. I am not convinced either of those two are going to happen soon. I am not even convinced the Big One will affect me much at all.

That's my guess as well. Bottom line, it will either cost me more money, or ultimately make my current holdings of certified coins less valuable unless I spend the extra money to strategically game my coins into the new grading system, slab, or "PQ" designation of some sort.
