Hard to say from those pics but it appears to be a high grade mint state coin. Under different lighting there could be a bunch of hairlines visible from a cleaning.

Nice coin. Super clean. I am not sure if the strike is typical for the issue - if it is, then 65, otherwise 64 for softness.

Gorgeous half eagle. I would say MS65 at least.

Is the color/texture difference around the stars and rest of field an illusion?

Judging by the PICTURES, it is a nice coin. Not sure what lighting etc could be hiding. Good point about the area around the stars... 'appears' lighter. In hand, it may be totally different. Cheers, RickO

s the color/texture difference around the stars and rest of field an illusion?

It has a light green or mint green bulls eye like translucent toning......

Here is a pic taken under a fluorescent light.....

    MS64...
  • ill say MS64, they are really strict in 65 and up with the fields, they pretty much have to have no discoloration.

64 because of the rub. I am not going to commit to a sticker at this time.

are there some scratches, or dents on the obverse rim at 11:00? [ First two pictures] How would that affect the grade?

It looks comfortably 64 to me, due to a few field marks and the spot. Very attractive.

I see several tics, scuffs, and rub that wasn't visible in your first set of pics. Looks to be a solid 64 to me.

the first pictures look unreal to me...

The first pics are "straight up pics"....no anything...just two different camera settings, the last pic is awful under a fluorescent tube to try and show the toning, in hand this coin is a boomer Imo,

I did call a friend this afternoon who is very familiar with these to take a look, he did and his opinion is a lock @ 64 with a chance @65, I asked if there were a possibility @66...
his response was no.....weak strike ......!

Here is an MS 64 I sent in. Yours has more luster and that gives it great eye appeal.
