How Many 1¢ Coins.......

would be in 2-1/2 gallons? I have a bucket of pennies that I saved between 1972 and 1991 that hasn't been touched since. Just wondered if anyone might know how much the monetary amount might be.
I did go through them once back in the 80's and checked the 72's for DDO. They have been sitting in the bucket (a Rubbermaid brand) for the last 19 years.

I have a 5 gallon water bottle that is almost full and it has ~25,000 pennies, so I'm guessing 2.5 gallons would be about 12,500 pennies.

I took the pennies out of a 5 gallon glass water bottle when I moved in 1991 fearing that the glass jug would not hold the weight any longer. I moved them in the plastic bucket and just left them there. Have always wondered how much money might be there. Thanks.

I would venture to guess in the 10,000 range.

A gallon of regular or a gallon of premium?
  • Just weigh the whole thing and divide by an average weight for each coin. 1982 and before are 3.11 grams and 1983 and since are 2.5 grams. Looks like you might have about half of each so use 2.8 grams per coin, 10 coins per ounce, 160 per pound.
