I have met Longacre before - and I appreciate the questions he asks on the forum and the forum is really a better place for the questions he has asked. Some were obviously in fun and others have been quite serious which has lead to the type of exchange expected here.
I am pleased I was able to meet up with RYK- what a terrific and knowledgable collector! While quite modest, he is well versed in 10 Libs and early gold in general. I would have liked to have chatted longer, but I had one day to do too much- buy, sell and submit- visit and look for good coins to buy within a fixed schedule. Today was alittle over scheduled in terms of what I thought I needed to do.

what a terrific and knowledgable collector! RYK is way cool......loved his box of 20!!! It was great to meet you, coinkat. From our brief meeting, I recognized yourself as being a 'terrific and knowledgable' collector!!! Me?? "I could have been a contender!"

I think its cause a 'woody' comment can be taken several ways... However, we are just being accepting to their 'alternative' lifestyle... Cant be closed minded nowadys ya know.
but I can see your point when the focus is idolizing one or two board members.
the only difference I could see between old gold collectors and collectors of roll searched modern crap are the jeans and t-shirts are pressed. (Longacre: do you pay for the martinizing, too?)

Honest answer? Because a number of folks here aren't just about the latest flip. They view the boards as a community of like-minded folks. Friendships and bonds formed. To those that only use the boards to know what the latest flip is, and where/how to sell it, it will seem foreign, however, to many, friendships that extend outside of the forum itself do happen.
The threads like this pop up because of that comraderie and the larger community spirit.

Ah yes, when nerds collide
Seriously though, you guys look like you make a cute couple
I find it amazing that anyone would be bothered by this thread. The greatest benefit of this board is to actually meet some of the people when you go to a show.

I always thought that collectors here looked forward to sharing collecting experiences as well as commentary from major coin shows- It seems as if sharing meetings and even transactions with dealers, folks on ebay and other board members was fair and has been ripe for discussion here… that is if it was done appropriately. The Baltimore Coin Show has been a big venue for a significant period- perhaps it does not date back as far as the Long Beach (California) Show, but I do not think dealers will dismiss its importance.
There are some that participate here that have asked questions that have helped make this the forum that it is- some of the questions have had a humorous tone- others have been serious which is to be expected for any hobby. Others have participated by attempting to share what they have learned or what they observe in an effort to be helpful as well as offer concepts/suggestions for improving the hobby. Some have earned our respect through their participation. While having a sense of humor adds to the enjoyment of any hobby and life in general, it also has limitations. Understanding the limitations can be a challenge and it seems that challenge arrived here in this thread and it needs to be directed back towards what brings us all here.

(did I do that right?)
several people stopped by to say hi, myself included. Everyone had a good time (blocking PCGS' table!) with a little more than brief chat.
I safely made it home to eat (Five Guys.. but near my house) and get my kid from school....
(read: I had to leave right after.)
no official word yet, but I hope to be wandering the aisles tomorrow, too. I have a couple of things I'd like to show my kid and maybe buy.
