<< <i>Seriously, does anyone actually care? Not to be rude, but why do all these posts pop up? >>

Honest answer? Because a number of folks here aren't just about the latest flip. They view the boards as a community of like-minded folks. Friendships and bonds formed.
To those that only use the boards to know what the latest flip is, and where/how to sell it, it will seem foreign, however, to many, friendships that extend outside of the forum itself do happen.

The threads like this pop up because of that comraderie and the larger community spirit. >>

Well said, although I have never met anyone from the forum, I feel like I know some of the members. I derive a lot of laughs from the posts and do enjoy the good natured humor and banter, some of which is truly LOL. How many coin posts can your read before boredom sets in.

Well, even though I wasn't honored with the very FIRST meeting of RYK and Longacre, I was blessed enough to have them appear at my table and entertain Todd and me with their wonderful charm, banter and intellect. I even happened to have an old issue of the Fly-In Club's newsletter "Longacre's Ledger" which I excitedly presented to Longacre as a momento of this very historic "follow up" meeting. Then RYK, who I'm sure wanted to be seen as the "regular guy" that he truly is, purchased an XF 1883 Indian cent from me, so he too could have a momento of this special time in history.

And, yes, I have pictures!!!!! The best part was that Todd didn't have to do any editing of photos prior to posting! Both RYK and Longacre wore napkins in their shirts during lunch so as not to spill mustard on their shirts, and they even shaved any sign of facial hair so that stray pieces of hot dog material did not get buried amongst any bird's nest beards. Also, they both wore the latest styled baseball type hats so we couldn't actually tell if they had neglected this week's shampooing and hair grooming session. Todd was even on hand in case we needed to do some serious editing before these historic photos were posted, but happily RYK and Longacre appeared quite presentable and perfectly suitable for photography. They even graciously allowed me to appear with them in one of their photos (I almost peed my pants because I was so giddy with excitement just being able to stand in between these historic forum figures!) image

As for the lovely Miss Charmy... I would imagine that with your busy show schedule, your husband has gotten quite comfortable with you traipsing all over the country and "mingling" with all these numismatic wolf types... either he is comfortable with it or he is nursing an ulcer the size of Cleveland... imageimage

Since my my sweet hubby is not a coin guy, I think he would rather have me attend coin shows where I get my coin talk fix and coin story sharing out of my system, rather than have to listen to me talk coins and make him ooh and ahh over my newps when I'm at home! Besides, I think the saying that "absence makes the heart grow fonder" has a great deal of truth! image

By the way, it was really nice to finally meet 66RB and his gracious wife at the show. Not knowing who he was, Rob walked up to my table with this little devilish smirk on his face so I just had to what was making him grin like that. Sure enough, as soon as he confessed "I'm 66RB and I'm a Forum Member," I should have guessed I was among another one of "our people." Todd and I quickly gave him the secret forum handshake and the forum chat began.

Then later when RYK and Longacre appeared at my table for the second Great Meeting, I think word spread like wildfire that these two famous (or perhaps infamous) forum gurus were on the block. 66RB was the first to get wind of it and of course couldn't pass up the opportunity to be in their presence. So we snapped this photo so he could have his own momento of The (second) Great Meeting! image

This was one really cool thread! Thanks for the entertainment, and sorry I couldn't attend. The first Spring Baltimore show I've missed in 14 years! Damn that pneumonia!

did they speak in third person upon meeting?

RYK: "RYK is happy to see Longacre!"
Longacre: "Longacre is glad to see RYK!"
RYK: "Did Longacre spot any other CU forum members besides RYK?"
    Longacre: "Indeed Longacre did!"
RYK: "Were any of them Excessively Prominent like RYK and Longacre?"
Longacre: "Well, a couple were more Prominent than RYK, but not quite as Prominent as Longacre!"
    Together: "Hahahahahah!"

We kept it in the first person. I was chauffeured to the airport by a board member [whose identity will remain confidential, for security purposes]. During the course of the drive, he exclaimed, "I have numismatic royalty in the car!", which was pretty nice. Then, however, Longacre was subject to a humiliating full body scan at the BWI airport security checkpoint, so I guess not everyone thinks Longacre is royalty. It's a good thing those pictures are not posted here. image

    Lol.

I must confess that I'm just a little disappointed by Longacre's appearance.

He's presentable enough (I suppose) but I've always pictured him in a top hat and
tails. I wouldn't think he'd even get in his limo without a cumberbund.

Longacre has taken this advice to heart, and now often travels as casually as three-piece suit and homburg (instead of full dress tails and top-hat).

Not everyoneimage It was very nice to be able to meet, albeit briefly, Charmy, Todd, Longacre, and RYK all within ten minutes. Charmy even showed me her new Indian cents she had just acquired and they were really nice!
