1919-D SLQ Newp! Opinions Welcome
This was a new purch that walked in today. I think it will probably one day reside in a 65fh holder, but my expectations due to the priceiness of a 65 fh is I'll get either a 65 plain or 64fh designation first time out. No ticks or garbage thats not easily visible in the photos and the coin does not have the dreaded friction on the top of the leg that holds a lot of slq to 63 or less. I figure if I want the 65fh I'll have to boot it in quite a few times to get it, but the coin has a legit shot. now I dont know how tough it is to get a fh designation anymore and the standards change from time to time, so any slq guys have a guess. Theres a little more definition to the head than I could get as I'm not great with a digital camera. Fire away!

It makes me wonder what I'd offer for it raw like that if the customer said " what'll you give me for it?"
I think I'd start at around 1000 if I thought it was "right"
The die crack on the rev is just cool too, dont recall seeing alot of SLQ's with cracks like that.
Not a full head but a very nice example. I love the die cracks around the date and the color on the reverse. Should go MS65
<< <i>This came into (your store, I presume) as a raw coin? - holy cow - what else did they have? >>
A 1881 proof cam indian that might or might not holder. And some assorted other junk that was really run of the mill. I think the guy bought a few power coins when he had some extra cash or something.
due to softness of hairline in the middle and questionable ear
hold. On the whole, a very beautiful coin and well worth a top price.

<< <i>Does the strike of the shield have a correlation to whether or not they give FH or not? >>
no
Full rivets, then that is worth an extra premium all other things
being equal.

<< <i>Does the strike of the shield have a correlation to whether or not they give FH or not? >>
Not at all. I've seen FHs where the center of her torso is so weak the shield is barely outlined.

Will not FH IMO ... although the ear hole is present, and the three leafs are present, the hairline is not ...
I see a few field distractions on both the obv and rev, I think ... so I'd wag it's a 64 shot 65 ... but very pretty, and as you know, one tough coin all the way around
Nice pickup!
