2006 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set Question

VetterVetter Posts: 962 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have an unopened mint sealed box from the mint with 2 sets of the 2006 20th ann. 3 coin silver eagle set. I am the original owner. The box was shipped early and was eligible for 1st strike designation. It's time for me to sell it and I have a few questions before i do.
1: Are they still worth more in the sealed box or opened?
2: Are they still able to get slabbed as 1st strike?
3:Best place to sell it? Forum (I never sold anything on here before), Ebay, Local dealer?

Thanks!

nycounsel had quite a bad experience selling an unopened box on ebay. There is minimal protection for sellers on ebay these days. There is always the chance of an unscrupulous buyer saying that the box was empty or that the coins were damaged when received, so you might want to get the coins certified as FS yourself before selling them, if you deem the cost worth the potential for a high grade FS.

Today I reviewed my thirty 20th Anniversay sets. Not one milk spot despite the humidity and fossil fuels (we live 100 yds from the interstate). None are graded, though, if that matters.

I just sold some 4 piece gold sets that were mint boxed and it made absolutely no difference if they were in the original shipping box, probably the same for silver eagles----------BigE

  • I would never sell anything in a sealed box. It's just not worth it because e-Bay and Pay Pal will never stand by you.

I think that is the key point......

    modern $14.00 X 6 = $ 84.00
    1st Strk $18.00 X 6 = $108.00
    Handling fee $ 8.00
    Postage Send $ 15.00
    Postage Return $ 21.95
    Return Display Boxes $ 4.00
    Total $240.95
    Mint Direct 2 sets $204.95

$446.00 Total invested... I'd roll the bones... hope for a 70 but if not ... 2006 SILVER EAGLES PCGS 69 FIRST STRIKE SET $370.00Linked

What are the 2006 raw ASE anniversary sets bringing these days? Do the unopened sets still bring a premium?
