1837 Illustrious Predecessor HT-34 / Low 20 - "Executive Financiering"" was a stab at Andrew Jackson's earlier campaign against the Bank of the United States. By 1837 the bank was defunct, its assets having been disposed of, and many of its branch offices having been taken over by state banks. The late president of the institution, Nicholas Biddle, formed the Bank of the United States of Pennsylvania, but conveniently left "of Pennsylvania" off of certain of its printed materials, giving the impression that it somehow had an official status. Biddle's new institution became well known for issuing high denomination notes of $1,000 or more. Various types of fraud and deceit were engaged in, and the institution collapsed, and Biddle was disgraced.

Political token for Admiral Gardner from his campaign to become a Member of Parliament from Westminster.

Admiral Gardner was a royalist (naturally), his opponents were Charles Fox (a Whig, and leader of the opposition in Parliament) and John Horne Tooke, who had been tried for high treason in 1794 (acquitted). On the left is a obelisk surmounted by a radiated crown, a sword and sceptre below. The obelisk is inscribed with the Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights. On the right is a fox holding a pole and flag proclaiming NO MAJESTY BUT THAT OF THE PEOPLE. The fox is on 3 unstable blocks labeled Whig Club, Rights of Man and Corresponding Society. A clergyman holding a block labeled Sedition is propping the blocks up and uttering the words THIS IS YOUR ONLY PROP.

Two of the candidates were elected as MPs from Westminster - Charles Fox and Admiral Gardner

I found these two on opposites sides of the base of the same tree, in an old yard. There were early Wheat cents and 1888 and 1905 Indian cents also found in the vicinity.

The big Green River Whiskey I've been able to attribute to circa 1935.

This Sixth Infantry token, on the other hand, I have never been able to pin down. I suspect it is older; perhaps Spanish-American War era- I would think World War I era at the latest.

I have a pet theory that both were deposited around the same time, by a kid or kids who were playing in that part of the yard. The tree was a fast-growing pine, so it might have been a mere sapling when the tokens were lost (or deliberately buried). Another sign of children found nearby was a vintage toy lead elephant.

It is gilt and I think it is a proof. If not its really prooflike. Not sure the diameter but I think its a bit larger than a quarter. I dont know much about it to tell you the truth.

It used to be on the so-calleddollars.com site but can't find it now.

Keeping with the 1904 World's Fair / Louisiana Purchase Exposition connection from a few of the previous items...

These are two "Silver" exhibit award medals, one from the regular portion of the fair, and one specific to the Philippine Exhibit.

The first is listed as Hendershott-30-50, the second, in silver-plated bronze, is Hendershott-30-60.

I think the tokens are starting to push out the coins in my collection(except for the commems).

I think the Straight's is just so neat, I have a feeling I will end up with more than one example.
