So,
Many of you may know me as being a young aspirational coin collector/investor who got into this world about a year ago..(Wow, time sure does fly!)
I've had many peaks and valleys throughout my experience here and at other places but never quit, never gave in to the pressures and I'm extremely thankful for that..
Here I am about a year later with a more than plentiful collection of in my opinion some of the finest looking coins one could own for being 24 years of age..
As of Long Beach this past February,
I think I've finally given into the vices ....
I don't know folks, I feel like Currency is something that's taking my breath away..
Don't get me wrong, I love my coins, but I just feel done with coin collecting in general.. I really do(At least for now).. and feel like moving onto greener pastures..(No pun intended)
What do you all think of this? Am I bad for turning on the hobby that welcomed me with open arms and basically raised me to be a more confident individual with coins? Or is this natural progression that almost everyone at some point in the coin world goes through... say.. a transitional period...

But from an investment standpoint there are probably at least 100X more collectors of coins than of currency.
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Seriously, collect whatever you like. I'd probably buy some currency too if I knew more about it. There are some awesome looking notes out there, that's for sure

Not at all..
All I do is sell stuff on ebay.. I mean, yeah I might be a power seller and all(due to my high valued items sold) but I'll still be doing that..
Maybe I should be in for a name change.. BNB Coins & Currency? (JK, I don't plan on selling currency but knowing me you never know)

Don't get me wrong, some nice coins exist too.. But I don't know, Currency to me is like mini artwork.. Just so well designed..
Thing is, Washington is quite the rockstar on a lot of early U.S currency.. Same portrait as the $1 and all!

I already made up my mind, now I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on the two..
As I get older my eyes are not as good as they used to be

Most coins also have that quality tho in more limited issues.
You could compromise and do both with mating a currency with a coin,
for example, mate an 1899 $1 silver cert. with an 1899 Morgan.
But then again in all fairness Websters Unabridged says currency is coin or paper.
So go the direction you think you need to go and remember both are intertwined.

Or you could try some of the more popular ones like this 1901 Legal Tender $10 "Bison" note, which I think it one of the more beautiful denom designs:

We'd LOVE to hear some of your thoughts instead of the constant wind-socking and trying to measure things through what other people have worked hard to learn and know.
There are no shortcuts, no free lunches, and no riding in on anyone's coat tails. If you want to know things, read, study, learn and discuss. Asking questions is great, but usually asking a question leads us to better understand what we already know. If you don't know anything, then you have nothing to on which to gauge the answer that you received.
As far as which to collect, who cares what everyone else thinks, collect what you like, because you want to, not because of value, or envy, or status.
If you like currency, then by all means, collect currency. If you like Tinkertoys, go collect them, but for God's sake, learn something from the numerous forums that you have been purged from and try to just fit in, be nice, take criticism, and most of all listen to what others say, even when it doesn't sound right to you. There are better ways to contribute other than by asking "What do you guys think?" on every given subject.

See, I operate differently, Mike "Noodle".. I really do. I try to always operate on a positive energy field opposed to a negative/critical one..
I encourage healthy debate because I love to read it, the on lookers I'm sure love to read it, and it's good for any forum..
With that said, I have no problems going even further and explaining why I like currency and what I see the main differences are between the two. (Before I start, I don't base my opinions or decisions on what others do or say, however, I love to hear what others have to say on the matter just because it's fun and educational)
Currency to me is like mini art(Like I've stated a few posts above which I suggest you go back to read), there is a much greater attention to detail and design than on coins. I feel if someone can collect nice expensive currency, they've truly made it in life.. I mean, if you're collecting your nation's past monetary history, doesn't that say a lot about you? I think so..
On a less desirable point, paper does blow with the wind and is very easy to rips and needs to be protected extra carefully. Coins do not have that problem. They are solid chunks of metal with fine imprints on it that need less care to preservation than currency, but nonetheless they still need to be preserved efficiently too.
Coins are very beautiful but I think one can only go so far especially if you are into the more modern 1900's and up designs like me.. I never was a fan of old 1800's designs and below.. I think they look too plain jane and basic.. However, with our currency, I don't feel that way. I can look all the way back to a Confederate note and find beauty in its attention to detail.. Yes, some of the fractionals do look like pieces of paper with writing on it, but there are lots of others that have prominent faces which I like...

which I think is an excellent point! Particularly interesting when you consider the technology that was available to engravers of the time. (BTW- I read a lot more than I post everywhere I post.)

What people collect speaks volumes about them. But collecting "A" is never better than collecting "B". It is all about enjoyment.
Part of what I have always found bothersome (and it's not just you) is people who have and continue to look at coin collecting as an investment and work toward making it such!
It is a pastime, a hobby. coins have value, but if you collect based on value, there is always a shinier bauble out there that makes yours look inferior. If you collect for enjoyment, then you will never be disappointed with your purchases because you like them.
So what you over-graded it, you like it. You may have paid too much, but you like it. Coins have value, but coin collecting has very little to do with value. It's about knowledge and learning and relaxing, not worrying if CAC will say that your coin really is a MS-70 or not.
