Going to look through $1000 in Half dollars (Pictures)
My son (14) is somewhat interested in coins so I suggested that we go on a treasure hunt at the bank and look for silver halves. He decided he wanted to take $1000 out of his savings account to see what we could find. We ordered them last week and are on our way to the bank to pick them up.... Lets here some guesses as to how many silver coins we find (any %). I guess 6.

If I recall, I think each box of $500 is about 35 pounds

With $2000 I'm guessing 6 at 90% and 32 at 40%. Good Luck!

I've carried $1000 without trouble.
you likely will not need this, but take some packing tape just in case. open boxes are a pain, especially if you have more than one box to carry.
the boxes and rolls might explode open if they are dropped from a height.
the last $1000 I went through turned up 2 40% and 2 90%, before that the kid and I found 2 90% and 7 40% in one box and 1 40% in another.
others have reported quite a number in a single roll out of a box.
be on the lookout for circulated proofs.... and may as well look out for circulated proof silver too.
I'll say 5 90% and 8 40%
good luck with your search. I bought $50.50 out of the local bank's counter yesterday and it yielded 1- 40%. The time before that yielded 2- 40% out of $23 face. The time before that yeilded 12- 40% and 3- 90% out of $103 face.
I've never searched rolled Halves before and think that most rolling facilities would search them for 40's and 90's before rolling them for disbursment. But, I've heard lots of folks say they've done well in rolled boxes.
I wish I had $2K in savings when I was 14........

First $ 100 gone through and we neted:
1; 1974-s
I dont know anything about this series... ziltch.. any help would be great. I assume the "S" came from a mint set? Proof set? Or am I being dumb..lol.. What other errors should I look for? Dates of errors.... This is going to take hours....

If anyone can be so kind as to post what I can look for.... I'll try to research it a little on my own as well..
But, it still adds up getting multiple boxes (I usually get 2 at a time as well).
Go to the merchant teller is what I do here. They do the ordering for the branch they are in here.
The 1974-S is from a proof set. I usually get 1-2 of those per thousand as well....impaired proofs. Don't know why I keep them

74 d ddo for sure... and there's 82p & 83p that are missing designer's initials
87's - only available in mint sets, but who knows..
i like 86 p's.. hardest regular half to find, for me anyway
i used to go through boxes here and there and did well with silver but that was a long time ago... there can't be many left in circulation i'd imagine
see if ya can put a set together... that'd be fun for ya both
If you have the lousy fortune of having purchased previously searched rolls, you might still find some 40% silver coins in there--providing you check the dates and not just scan the edges. I've found some dirty silver clads that others have missed with edges that looked a lot like clad edges.
While you're at it, I hope you and your son are thinking about assembling as complete and unblemished set of circulation issues as you can find in rolls.
Of course, if the right widow or widower has previously owned a significant number of the coins in those two boxes, you may have an experience similar to the one I last had on June 13, 2007, when the seventeen rolls I got from a local bank yielded the goodies pictured below (stacked by date and mm).
I did pick up six rolls about three weeks ago that contained eighteen 40% and five 90% Kennedys.
It's always a trip to strike silver. Enjoy!
1970D (no P) plus the 87P & 87D were not circulation strike.

Bolded.....they didn't, so 2008 and 2009 (even 2010 currently) are good finds too. Usually means someone bought a bag, or rolls, went through for what they wanted, and "Spent" the rest
