Pick the best of three 1845 Seated Dollars in PCGS Plastic
A few months back I posted my collection of 1840's seated dollars in PCGS holders and one coin I had considered upgrading was my 1845 seated dollar. Now the collection has three 1845 seated dollars in PCGS plastic and I want to get some opinions as to which example is the best. My collection focuses on original toned examples in the VF30 to EX45 range for the most part. Each of these examples has some pros and cons in my opinion, but if you could only pick one which one would you keep and why?
#1

#2

#3

<< <i>#3 is the one. The reverse strike and the overall detail is much better. Also has the most original look.

<< <i>#2 is the lowest grade, but the most eye appeal. >>
I agree with that.

I like #1 next and I think it's very close in grade to #1.
That leaves #2, which isn't a bad coin but it's a bit too light in color for my taste. I think it's the slightly lowest grade of the group.

<< <i>the third one has the best detail; none have original surfaces. >>
I agree, I think all three have been cleaned at some point.

Of course, when it comes to Seated Dollars in the XF range, how many of them really are 100% original? Probably about 12.

I think around 10%.
#3 shows circulation nicks more but that doesn't bother me a bit. I like its over all look the most though I'd be thrilled to have any of them.
Lance.
It has the most even looking color and the surfaces look issue free for the most part.
3 here as well - for the reasons already mentioned. One looks problematic and 2 has no character to me anyway.
Best,
Eric
I think 3 is the most original, but I like #1 better (from the pic as opposed to in hand).
#2 cleaned with dip on a Q-tip 25 years ago; #1 cleaned with something similar 75 years ago (but I like it anyway).
Throw them at the wall and see if any stick. lololol

That's uncanny!
Wait for one to pop up with this look (it's an 1859-o...), they ARE out there for the 1845...
Boom...we win.
<< <i>I guess I'd take #3 based on these photos, but it is not an easy decision. >>
