Look at this one 1968 says 'S' on the 2x2 Lincoln Cent.
Can you make it out but looks cool what do you think?

mostly the diagonal from 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock - but possibly the top curve of S as well.
I think that is very cool
got any idea what it was struck through? or is that PMD?

Very interesting indeed. I have no idea what could have caused this myself. Maybe the aluminum foil from a hot dog that the mint employee threw into the press?
Can't wait to see what the experts have to say...

Also, the high points of Lincoln's figure seem to be less affected.
The fact that LIBERTY is also so clear also seems odd.
Perhaps a corrosive chemical, such as an acid, was placed on the obverse, and over time resulted in the surface. The best thing to do is to weigh the coin... if it is less than it should be, then the corrosive chemical is probably the cause.
Coins with glue residue also look pretty funky at times. Again, weight will be the give away. If it weighs more than usual, then something added such as glue could be the culprit.
Maybe a soldering iron? Looks like the metal is almost heated and pushed back and forth below the "R" in "Liberty" and above the "Y" in "Liberty"
probably from a very late stage Capped
Die, or, a smaller possibility, a detached
laminated copper shell.
This is a 'common' effect seen as the
coin that capped the obv. die gradually
thins out - enabling not only more of the
Obv. die detail to show on the subsequent
coin strikes, but also it thins in some areas
that some areas can be normally struck,
as seen in some of the letters of Liberty.
Very cool looking coin, I hope the error folks can determine its real......I'm crossing my fingers and toes.
