1987 Topps Baseball No, really...this is good!

  • Thats pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
  • That is awesome, I would SOOOOO buy this set if they ever released it. Reminds me how much I love the 87T set, the 2nd year I collected.

Although I noticed almost all photos are at bat, no portraits or in field shots. Woulda been nice to see a variety, but beggars can't be choosers.

    Or,

It could be that MLB asked Topps to offer "the least expensive" card BG for this site, and Topps provided the most unflatering BG ever used in it's 50 years.

I loved the 87 Topps too, it was the second year I collected as well.
  • Cool that hey are using actual card borders, but damn that was an ugly set. The worst of the 80s by far.
  • I loved it at the time. But those photos were way too good for 87 Topps. They needed to be a bit fuzzier.

It's hard for me to separate the nostalgia from my critique of the 87 Topps set. I vaguely remember being disappointed with the look when they first came out but I grew to appreciate it over time . . . and by 1988 I found myself wishing for the good old 1987 days. I thought all three of the sets from 87 were great.

  • 1987 Topps inspires debate, but it holds dear for many collectors who were drawn back into the Hobby. 87' was indeed a banner year, Donruss and Fleer put out stellar sets, it was a wonderful time to collect.

I saw that and like seeing the new players in the 87 Topps set. But liked it more when they put them in the 80 set as that is one of my favorite sets. Modern Players in the 1980 Set You have to click on 2008 MLB.com fantasy preview as there is not a direct link to the card images. They made the 80s look a little beat up and ungradeable but still cool for me.
  • I like this card a lot

  • I still love the 1987 Topps set, especially the Bo Jackson Future Star.

The Barry Bonds is nice, too.

I've got a Keith Hernandez in my hand right now, and I think it's a great card!

Actually, the photo looks like one of the little league custom cards you can have made, but it's so cheesy, it's cool. image

    Keith Hernandez on my desk!
