Otherwise yikes! if that is fake then it is really good I think...

It's one of the older ones, where there's a diagonal gash in the obverse shield at the IBE in LIBERTY. The scammers always photoshop to blur it.

Thanks Mark,
I don't know the series well enough that I was sure enough to report it. I am thinking of filling the seated dollar holes in my 7070 set. Maybe I will just buy slabbed and crack em.

Richard, there are scary quantities of counterfeits out there, some of them very good ones and others, not. I would strongly suggest that you buy a certified one from a well known, reputable seller (as their are also counterfeit coins in counterfeit holders).
We'll see.

Bob, looks like he posted your question. I didn't care for the sellers answer, which is basically, "the owner is/was a longtime collector, I sold lots of his coins, why would he have one fake". It's like some folks don't want to take any responsibility for what they sell. The no returns speaks volumes here as well. Pass.
Dear lathmach,
I have cancelled all the bids on this coin, and have an appt with a coin dealer Wednesday to verify authenticity. I certainly would not sell a coin I thought was not real. All bids placed on this item will be cancelled as ebay will not let me cancel the auction with less than 12 hours to go.

She sent me the same email. I told her that it would be wise to have it looked at and weighed. Also told her that fakes have been around
as long as coins have been made. Plenty from the 1800's and beyond.
