1980 Bird/Magic RC and some snooty banter.

Been wanting this card in a PSA 7 lately, and was perusing the BIN's on ebay. One seller has 2 of them priced at $174 each, OBO. I researched the recent sales of this card so as to not pay more than necessary and saw that the last 4 to sell have been in the $120-$130 range. Anyway, I made a best offer of $125 and was "auto declined". Then I messaged the seller with the message below:
'Last 3 PSA 7's to sell on ebay were $127 on the 26th, $125 on the 20th, and $122 on the 17th. I made a best offer of $125 and was "auto declined". Care to reconsider that, or should I just buy the next one at auction for that amount? Thanks.'
He responded with:
'I'd say grab the next one that auctions for $125.
Thanks for your interest.'
So I went to another seller who had one at $199 OBO. Again, I offered $125 and it was accepted. Consequently, another PSA 7 had sold via auction for $128 while this was all taking place. I guess some people want to actually SELL cards, while other just want to use ebay as a place to display their collections.

I guess if quoting actual sales figures and offering to negotiate a price is being a d*ck, then every single actuary, every single real estate appraiser, and every single person who does not feel like overpaying is also a d*ck. Like I said, some sellers actually want sales....some dont.

I'm going to pile on and agree...
<< <i>Unlike most of you, who "gotta know" what the priceguide says before doing anything card related, I simply buy cards because I like them. I dont give a frog's fat ass what VCP is on this card, or any other card I own. >>

If the guy does not care when the card sells what is his motivation to drop the price for you after you have basically slapped him in the face - I'm sure he knows the real value of the card he is just waiting for the person who must have the card at whatever the price.

Just because I dont care what my cards are worth does not mean I want to waste money when buying them. I could have just hit the $179 BIN and been done with it. OR I could buy one at current market value and then buy another VG 3 T206 card for the same amount of cash. Dont confuse thriftyness with pure stupidity.

Agreed, but only when that particular item comes onto the market once or twice per year. However, in this case, that card is sold on a weekly basis for around $125...week in, week out. Only a total MORON would spend $179 on something he could buy for $125 at least 75 times per year.

It happens every day. Some people spend $500 on a card that I bought for $150 a few weeks prior. It happens. Just move on to the next card.

But did that particular card realize sales of $150 on 4 seperate occassions within the past 2 weeks before someone paid $500 for it? Thats the difference. This PSA 7 Bird is nothing special at all. They always sell right in the same range of $120-$130. Its not like if I dont buy the one at auction today I have to wait another 4 months for another to pop up. They are always available. So why would anyone but an idiot buy it for $174?
Enough, let's move on.

<< <i>There are idiots born every day, and some people want those idiots to buy their cards at a premium. What can I say? Don't get mad at the guy, just move on. >>
Not mad at all. Heres the actuality of the situation. I have the card at a price I wanted to pay. A seller has sold a card at the price they were comfortable in accepting, and the original seller still has that overpriced card in his ebay store that he is paying to display. I love it!!! I think its amusing.
<< <i>Yipee, I got my first unsolicited PM from this clown. >>
No different than the unsolicited comment you made in this thread that had NOTHING to do with the subject matter. But perhaps you didnt realize that.
<< <i>The point is I saved myself $49. I think i'll use that extra cash to buy another T206 card. >>
Or play a hand of blackjack just like all the other fleas.
I would argue that is a top 5 card in the BKB hobby, so $125 blows my mind.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.

That particular stack of cash is long gone. I bought almost 3 ounces of gold that weekend, and let my wife do some jewelry shopping with the rest. Would you like to see what $50,000 worth of gold and silver looks like?

Should look like a little pile of shredded cardboard by now.....but then again, it all depends on what kind of scumbag you made the deal with I suppose.
