Need some help here with some card stuff...

Hey guys. I thought since we were kind of a small community here I would share and ask for advice. Many of you know that I went through a divorce about 1 1/2 -2 years ago. About 3 months after the divorce I ran into the girl I dated toward the end of college. We started hanging out again and then started seeing each other. Well, now it's almost been a year that we've been together (2 years in college too) and I'm going to ask her to marry me at the end of February.
With that said, I have part of my collection that I want to sell to help toward the purchase of a ring and to take her to Italy where her family is originally from. I'm not trying to sell in this forum, because I know that this is not the place for that. If I decide to sell here it will be on the BST forum.
I just didnt' know with all the crap of having to deal with ebay if you guys thought posting on Craigslist would be a good idea or are there other places to sell stuff? Also, if I decide to sell on BST is it better to go through all the work of scanning cards and stuff or just post information with a price?
Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

  • I have actually had a little success selling large lots of 5000 count boxes and sets on Craigslist. If you are selling graded cards, don't bother.

If you are selling graded cards on the BST board, just post the card description and asking price. If they are raw, you are probably going to have to include scans.

    Edit for beer spelling.

I'd give it more time than a year, I'm not sure why you'd be in such a rush to get remarried. The best thing you have going for you is that you dated her before. You may want to figure out if you've solved whatever reason you broke up before. Good luck!

Oh, sell on the BST forum if you have some good stuff. I'm not so sure abut craigslist.

    I did.

This is what a DB says:

"My thoughts are that you obviously didnt learn anything from your 1st marraige. Best of luck though."

And this is how to offer friendly advice:

"I'd give it more time than a year, I'm not sure why you'd be in such a rush to get remarried. The best thing you have going for you is that you dated her before. You may want to figure out if you've solved whatever reason you broke up before. Good luck!"

Though I'm not surprised you can't see the difference.

Barry, personally I wouldnt try to to reason with this idiot.

Anyone that types till his fingers bleed and stalks someone over a $30 item is definately got mental health issues.

    Guru, here is my thoughts...

I agree that if your posting Raw cards for sale here, definately include scans that way people can grade them themselves that way you wont run into a EX vs Fair type grading argument. One thing I would suggest is Ebay with a BIN with a best offer option attached to it, the listing fees are minimal and you can accept or decline offers without the hassle of PM's and Emails.

    Best of luck

If you decide to sell through Craigslist, here's a tip.

Personally, I never let anyone come to my house. If someone is going to buy something, I'll meet them somewhere (gas station, grocery store, etc). That's just me.

  • First things first, Gecko...dude...come on. Seriously, read what I'm about to tell you and take it seriously. What you said kinda made me angry. But here's the thing. I believe in God and right now to me it doesn't matter whether you do or not. All I know is this, I've said some pretty crappy things in my life to people. I've done some pretty crappy things in my life to people. But in the end, I know that God has forgiven me and extended to me a huge amount of grace.
So dude, I want you to know that I forgive you for what you said. If God can extend to me that kind of grace, I can do the same for you. I don't know why you say things like you do on here. Your situation with Bill is best taken off the threads and used through PM. But it seems that you keep bringing it back. I don't know if something happened to you as a kid or an adult or maybe even something recently to make you have this attitude. But dude, life is too short to be cynical and negative. And here's the thing man, if you'd just take the time to be nice to people on here, not a pushover, but nice, I think people would get a long with you just fine.
Or maybe you just don't give a crap in which case, you're probably still a good guy with issues like all of us. So man, take a step back and ask yourself why you talk the way you talk. None of us know how much time we have here and if you're a smart guy, which I'm assuming you are, I think you'll realize that there's little time to be negative and cynical. Some people on here would disagree with me, and that's cool. We are all entitled to our own opinion.

    SPEAKING OF OPINIONS...

Dudes, I got on here to ask for card selling opinions. So thank you all so much for helping me out. These past 2 year have been some of the best in my life. Now how many dudes that have been through hell and back can say that or would be willing to say that.

My next question is, if I decide to sell on the BST, is it okay to post that I am in other forums or is that considered spamming? I just want to mind the rules around here.

That's gotta be one of the lowest class posts I've ever seen here (or anywhere for that matter). What the hell is the matter with you?

Edited to add the parenthesized words. Also, Chris, I wish you success in your sales and your upcoming proposal. Kudos to you for taking the high road and forgiving Gecko and his ridiculous statement - very good example to all of us.

I have been on dozens of forums and this has been the friendliest, most civilized and intelligent forum I have been on (doesn't say much). I don't know you but I do know that this place has been fun for me and people have generally accepted me with open arms and you are spreading hate and negativity. You might have meant it as a joke but sarcasm is the spit left on the floor of bathroom stalls. I hope to have many more posts here but hopefully this will be the last under these circumstances. Again, I don't know you but please keep negative comments to yourself.

Guru - it's generally considered spamming to post in other forums that you have stuff on the BST board for sale. However, if you're breaking up an existing registry set, it's not out of line to mention that on the Set Registry board - especially if there's already a thread devoted to that set.

And you can always put a link in your sigfile to your BST thread.

  • Guru,

Back on topic - the BST boards here are outstanding. I've also had similar success on net54's buy and sell boards -- they're a bit more vintage focused but there are terrific board members there too. If you're in doubt over a certain person or transaction ask one of the more active members on the boards if they've heard or done transactions with the person and you'll usually get a reply.

BST transactions here have been simply outstanding in my experiences of both buying and selling. Majority of the members here have been terrific to deal with and no fees!?!? how awesome can it get.

Just a thought in my head (yeah ain't that a surprise that there is anything there).

You have listed cards for sale Hey everyone! Selling 9 of my graded cards. PM me with offers.

In my mind when someone is selling something they list a price. Once you don't do that and ask for offers that to me is an auction.

    Just my 2¢

It seems like a lot of people here can dish it out but they can't take it. It seemed to me to be a joke, not the best joke, but a joke. Cry me a river.
  • Well, where I come from we also believe in second chances and that was what I was trying to express then move on.

Anyway, I appreciate all the advice here guys. I listed some last night and I have already received a PM offer. I'm going to get on later and add some prices which I think will help. Thanks for mentioning that whoever did.

I have a question about list the raw cards. If I list with scans, should I put a price and also ask for best offers too?

    Thanks!

I remember in the early ebay days you could buy used underwear, with men/women posing in the pics wearing them, this was always hilarious to me and my friends and I would send each other links in emails as jokes, eventually they changed the rules where people had to state in the description they would be washed! Not sure if that thing is still on Ebay but I HIGHLY doubt it! image I bet a Dizzle used florescent yellow banana hammock would fetch a pretty penny!

I'm a firm believer in putting prices. Think it's just way easier knowing up front what the price is and saves time in doing PM tag.

  • << <i>I have a question about list the raw cards. If I list with scans, should I put a price and also ask for best offers too? >>

Putting a price usually opens the door for people to give you an offer less than what you have listed. image

  • I usually try to stay out of these posts...
That comment by gecko was about as tasteless as you get and think it deserves all the backlash and more. Ironic from someone that preaches all over the board about his personal integrity. Integrity isn't just completing a deal honorably... to me it's also not kicking a man when he's down or when he's had 1 failed marriage. Whether a joke or not, it was definitely at someone's expense and he has every right to be upset.

Guru, I'm happy for you and wish you the best.

I was never of the opinion that being a firefighter in any way made you less susceptible to being a dbag. I used to know a guy who lived in a firehouse and said the place was crawling with self-absorbed aholes (before the term dbag became so popular). BTW, csmtampa, please don't change that avatar anytime soon. I think the gal on the far right makes the world a better place. She's a PSA 10 in my book.

I agree with this, but like Bigjaco noted, you will want to price above the minimum you would accept, many people will offer lower than your asking price.
