Presenting the 2010 Lincoln cent........1st real pics!!

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,410 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sorry pics are bad but these were shot in haste and poor light. Just rec'd these "pennies" today. I am actually liking them in hand. They have an antique, "Civil War-ish" look/feel to them. Lincoln seems to have undergone a facelift also. His Beard and hair have less detail, although his hair appears more curly to me!! Enjoy:

    COOL,

Mine will be here on Monday.

They are about 10 miles from me.

How is the quality? 64-65's or a little better.

Do I see the usual spots on the reverse?

Did you find any reverse of '09' image

    Serious???

I didn't even realize there was a change...

  • Options
I like the overall look of the reverse, but the weight of the ONE CENT scroll seems to throw off the balance of the design.

    I'll second that. image

Of all the symbolic devices on U.S. coinage, Liberty, Eagles, etc. the Shield appeals to me THE most.
I'm reall happy with this (last?) cent reverse.

It's got that classic fresh-from-the-Mint wash look to it. image

Overall, I was one of the ones who liked the design, simple and somewhat elegant compared to all the recent makeovers.

    I actually like this design.

The only 2009 cent I saw in person was the one I found metal detecting. Can't wait to find my 2010 lincoln on the beach!

Wheat, Memorial and now the Shield. I like it. I agree that the banner is a bit too thick but the design is simple and right for the coin. I'm just happy not to see a hammer and sickle or a big fat star.

    So we have
    the following Lincoln Cents.

    Wheat
    Memorial
2009 ?? <----- What do we call these? Annivesary, Centennial (of Cent) or Bicentennial (Abe's Birth)
    Shield

    Just wondering....

I prefer Bicentennial Lincoln's since they are zincolns and a centennial would make me think bronze instead of zinc.

did they do nothing to give an appearance of alternating "colored" stripes?

PS nice score. I just received my first 5 coins total of the Prof. and Pres. cents.

I like it! The reverse looks nicer than in the Mint drawings ... but I think I like the obverse even more! Lincoln seems to have been redesigned, for the better this time.

The problem with 2009 Lincoln cents is they are not part of a series like Wheats and Memorials.
And for all we know, the 2010 will turn out to be a one year/trick pony.

So, is the 2009 and 2010 really part of the "Memorial collection" ?

The Dansco & Whitman folder guys are going to go nuts!

would be way better if they used a texture on half the stripes to make it appear as if it were a different color... sort of like the original drawing from the Mint.

Very cool! The Shield Cents will be with us for the next fifty years (if the cent lasts that long)! I like the redesign of Lincoln too.

The shield looks raised. Or is it flat?

If it is raised there will probably be striking issues with the areas on Lincoln opposed to the high points on the shield. The may have to flatten the shield. That would be unfortunate.
