Unbelievable. Some people have some serious stones around here. This whole mess could have been initially handled privately, but wasn't. Two BS threads get started, and now this. Way to throw more gas on a fire that had all but been doused, Justin. Your half-hearted attempt to explain away your actions yesterday ring hollow. This entire episode has been self-serving, malicious and completely uncalled for. Let's move on, indeed. If you were interested in moving on, you could have again chosen a private message to tell Bill about the results of the QO, but instead chose to take more pot shots.
<< <i>Is anyone going to knowingly buy a fake auto for charity simply because the seller has a butt-load of posts on a message board? lol >>
That would seem to be quite stupid. If Bill wanted to do the right thing, he would simply DESTROY this card so as it brings no more harm to the hobby. Thats what I would do with any fake coin I come across.
I find it pretty telling of how this place works when someone is allowed to "get away with" knowingly selling a fake auto (clearly he knew it was fake by the pricing). So if I get my post count high enough, I reach a level where I can do what I want and everyone will stick up for me? I can't WAIT... let the post padding start! I have a sharpie and some commons sitting around just waiting to be autographed! lol

I know exactly what happened. I read this and the locked thread. A member is caught selling a fake auto he received in a trade or purchase from these boards and was called out publicly. The members then proceed to pile on the member who did the calling out because there is a "protect high post count members" mentality here. Not too hard to understand. Your "list" is meaningless..

I believe Bill said he checked Ebay closed auction prices and there were several around the mid $40.00's. Thus his buy it now was reasonable. I don't have time to research it but why don't you? If I read that correctly then his price is very accurate and says nothing of whether he knew or didn't know it to be a fake. I know I would have done the same. Check Ebay closed auction prices and put it up for a similar price. That seems like a reasonable way to sell stuff. I don't sell autographs but do you usually check the authenticity of every cheap autograph you sell? Seems hard to believe.

You are making a lot of excuses for him. Again, if he didn't have a high post count here, you would not be saying any of this. I don't think it's all that big of a deal, but after being called out for selling a fake, his reaction should have been "Oh crap, I'll take that down immediately.", not a hundred excuses. A fake auto is a fake auto no matter how many posts a person has on a message board.

Not totally accurate.
The response is NOT based on post count but rather contribution, generosity, board participation - e.g. taking the time to organize a group rip for one thing.
There are some people here with lower postcounts who are respected for their quality posts - knowledge in the hobby - and respectful manner of communicating.
I know it's tempting to think otherwise - but - with all due respect - I recommend that you don't generalize this situation - and make an assumption not based on fact.

I get it. It's okay to sell fake autos to unsuspecting eBayers if you are generous and do group-rips on the PSA forums. Makes perfect sense. I'm happy to see he took down the fake auto, but the reaction to him being called out was as offensive as the call out. Clearly the call out should have been handled differently, but no one should get a free pass simply because they are a "respected" member of a message board.

I think human nature came into play here. Once he was publicly called out, his first reaction was (understandably) to defend himself. Had he been PM'ed, he may well have pulled the auction immediately until it was resolved. It's something I tell my kids, and apparently something that adults need to learn too - you can't act toward someone in a rude way and then be allowed to critique their reaction.

It's like you're mixing metaphors.
No one is giving him a pass on anything without due consideration.
He's getting defended based on his reputation.
As would you if called out and was known here by board members - and postcount would be irrelevant.
If someone called out Griffins - he would get the full support of the board - NOT for what he did but rather for the public flogging - and potentially without a trial - if ya know what I mean?

<< <i>I find it pretty telling of how this place works when someone is allowed to "get away with" knowingly selling a fake auto (clearly he knew it was fake by the pricing). So if I get my post count high enough, I reach a level where I can do what I want and everyone will stick up for me? I can't WAIT... let the post padding start! I have a sharpie and some commons sitting around just waiting to be autographed! lol >>
You obviously don't have a freaking clue of what happened, yet decided to throw in your unedumacated opinion.
Good job, though. You're now on THE LIST.
Wow, great way to revise history.
It's not "my" list but what really is meaningless is DrJ's so-called apology and you. >>
Why don't you explain where I "revised history" instead of simply stating it. This should be fun. >>
It will be fun if you enjoy having your own words thrown back at you.
<< <i>The members then proceed to pile on the member who did the calling out because there is a "protect high post count members" mentality here. >>
That's not what happened. For a perfect example, see stone's post above.
Nice try and better luck barking up the wrong tree next time

Not totally accurate.
The response is NOT based on post count but rather contribution, generosity, board participation - e.g. taking the time to organize a group rip for one thing.
There are some people here with lower postcounts who are respected for their quality posts - knowledge in the hobby - and respectful manner of communicating.
I know it's tempting to think otherwise - but - with all due respect - I recommend that you don't generalize this situation - and make an assumption not based on fact.
Thanx

<< <i>
You are making a lot of excuses for him. >>

So now your accusing Bill of maliciously attempting to sell a fake on eBay, even though ALL of the details have been discussed ad nausem.
Again, you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

It's okay, your friend will still have his post count and the support of the boards. lol No need to get bent out of shape over it. He's even giving the FAKE AUTO charity money to YOUR charity. I guess this will even build up your rep here too? You deserve it, buddy. You're so cordial and easy going. It's been a pleasure discussing this with you!
