List the 10 favorite coins in your personal collection.

What are your favorite U.S. coins in your collection? List up to 10. You may give the grade, or choose not to. I don't care if it's proof or uncirc: P-01 to MS70. Gold, silver, copper, bronze, zinc or whatever. Slabbed or raw. Token or Commem. Pictures optional, but if you're bursting with pride over something, show it! Coins with sentimental value are special too - if you have one, tell us why it's sentimental. If it's one you owned, sold and regret doing so, go ahead and cry, we have good shoulders.

I have a basic design registry set - I can't afford the big bucks, but enjoy the ones I have and will upgrade some when I'm done. We all have different budgets, but we should all enjoy what we do and do what we enjoy!

The ones I'm listing are all in PCGS holders:

1853 Half Cent in MS64RB - special because it's my newp and I waited awhile for it!

1857 Flying Eagle Cent in AU50 - it was made 100 years before me.

1908 IHC in MS64RD - my only IHC and I love its color and look.

1909-S VDB cent in AU58 - it was very special because I waited most of my life for one. Kept it 6 years then sold it to put toward a Bust Dollar a couple years ago. I miss it... my biggest collecting regret was having to sell it. image

1866 Shield Nickel in MS63 - I always loved the Rays design and wanted one for my set. Hopefully will upgrade to a more lustrous one in the future, hoping for a 65.

1938-D Buffalo in MS67 - When I first saw this, I drooled a bit. I love the look, luster and sharp strike.

1857-O Half Dime in AU58 - another coin made 100 years before me, very nice look to it.

1930 SLQ in MS64FH - I never thought I could afford a FH but this wasn't so bad... and she's pretty.

1798 Bust Dollar, 5 Stripes - my only coin from the 18th century - the only way I'd buy a Bust Dollar. The one I gave up my 1909-S VDB for. (deep sigh)

1878-S Trade Dollar in XF40 - sentimental... when my father-in-law died in 2001 we found a small jar of coins and this was in it, so I had it graded... will upgrade it for my collection one day but the coin stays in the family.

There are a few others, I guess I have an affection for everything in the set, but I did say 10!
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

1844-O Seated Half Blundered Date - Absolutely a fantastic coin, and I would miss it SO much if I were to sell it

1825/4/2 B-3 Bust Quarter with a large reverse Cud over UNITED

1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar, O-110a - It has two neat die cracks at the top of the obverse

1920 Buffalo Nickel - I started collecting because of it!

1814 Small Date Capped Bust Dime in VF-30 - absolutely the most original coin I have found for this date, grade, and variety

1834 JR-6 Capped Bust Dime Fine/Very Fine - With three reverse Cuds; just a super cool coin

1853 Inverted Date Seated Half Dime - not something you see everyday!

1825/4/2 B-2 Capped Bust Quarter with a large retained Cud on the reverse; plus the coin is close to a VF!

(I can only think of 8 at the moment ~ )

1876-s Trade $ MS63 - Fully prooflike obverse and reverse with 100% original toning. Totally gorgeous and looks like a $10,000 coin.
1876-s Trade Box $ - Coin is VF but the hinge mechanism is in perfect condition with no damage and includes vintage portrait of a young man! (I'd prefer a lady...)
1805/4 Draped 50c F15 - PERFECT for the grade and the most pleasing Draped half I've seen in any grade.
1805 Draped 1/2c XF40 - EAC gave it a VF35 but that speaks for the coin's quality. Again perfect for the grade and too bad all coins don't look like this one.
1930 SLQ MS64FH - Pretty, light toning with tons of luster and nice representative of this type
1913 Buff type 2 5c MS65 - Excellent strike, lots of luster and nice colorful toning to boot.
1883 Proof Shield 5c MS64 - My only 19th century proof but this represents the century well. Original toning, nice mirrors and no noticeable marks without a glass.
1986 Silver Eagle MS67 - Cool first year type with wild crescent toning (which is probably AT but it made it into a PCGS holder so it definitely protects my $50 ebay investment...)

I love that 1878-S Morgan, she's a stunner! And if I were getting a 1916-D, it would be that grade or lower just to have one. Did you collect dimes as a kid? I started with "pennies," as a 10 year old, so my dream was the S-VDB. The 1798 cent is great, as is the 1806 half. I love coinage from that era. Heck, I love ALL your coins; thanks for the pictures! My granddad gave me a 1909 cent which was EF with a lot of red left in it back then - it's a keeper too. Gotta keep things with good memories attached.

These would be my top ten I imagine if I had to narrow it down to only 10.

1807 AU58 - Because of it's incredible originality and because I got it upgraded.

    image

1820/19 AU58 - Because of it's super originality and because it's a tough date and overdate in the CBH series.

    image

1811/10 AU55 - Because of its great originality and eye appeal. And, because I have been looking for a nice example of this overdate for quite awhile, even passed on a really nice PCGS AU58 because of a reverse rim ding but found this 55 not long ago at less than half the price.

    image

1822 AU55 - Because of it's gorgeous toning on both obverse and reverse.

    image

1814 E/A AU55 - Because it is a really tough Redbook variety especially in choice AU but more so, because I got it for the price of a normal 1814 55.

    image

1809 III Edge AU55 - Because of it's awesome eye appeal and toning, and also because I got it upgraded.

    image

1828 Small Letters AU58 - Because of it's amazing originality and because it's a REALLY tough Redbook variety to find in this grade and with any nice eye appeal.

    image

1836 AU58 - Because I got it upgraded and because it once was in Meyer's collection.

    image

1912-S MS64 - Because of it's great toning and because it's a tough key date to find with nice eye appeal.

    image

1885 MS64 - Because I looked long and hard for this key date in this grade but most importantly because I managed to cross it from NGC 64 to PCGS on the first try.

Good thing they are not in a meaningful order because they are certainly not a meaningful group of coins.:&ltimage on an unrelated note; when people have one coin that's worth more than every coin you own, they are doing something right.

Trying to do this in order, but really the top five coins are in a dead heat, regardless of value. The rest I would say are all in a tie for a close second.

Off the top if my head here goes:
    1861-C half eagle NGC AU-50
1838-C half eagle PCGS VF-25, this coin is an original dirty coin with a weakly struck obverse but the reverse looks XF-40
1839-D half eagle PCGS VF-20, this coin is the rare variety with the mintmark centered over the 3 in the date
1840-C "Broad mill" half eagle NGC XF-45 ex PCGS XF-45 holder
1843-D/D large D quarter eagle (this coin is possibly my most interesting coin along with my 1840-C broad mill half eagle as it is an overmintmark much stronger than all D/D varieties except the 1846-D/D half eagle, I once owned the higest graded 1848-D/D half eagle in a PCGS MS-62 holder along with a nice OGH 1846-D/D quarter eagle.)
1874-CC half dollar raw VG nice dirty original coin
1853/2 $20 Gold piece in a PCGS OGH VF-35 dirty original coin that is easily an XF-45 coin
    1914 MPL PCGS PR-64 RB
1912 MPL old fatty NGC PR-64 RB
1911 MPL old fatty NGC PR-64 BN but in reality the obverse is 90% bluish green a simply gorgeous coin.
I have to add a couple more I recently picked up, an 1846-0 eagle in a PCGS OGH XF-40 which I think is easily and AU-50 with dirty original surfaces and an 1881-0 eagle in a PCGS OGH XF-45 which again is easily an AU-50 maybe as high as a 55 with original prooflike surfaces.

Thats pretty tough since the collection seems to grow daily!

    but for right now,

1865 gold dollar (JUST bought it, not here yet but Im brimming with excitement on it)
1867 gold dollar (yeah yeah yeah its in a 3rd world slab but its a freaking beauty!)
1859 C gold dollar NGC AU53 an ugly poorly struck coin made in a tiny mint with no care whatsoever.. worst US coin ever struck, and I love it
1856 D gold dollar PCGS gennie...yeah, its got some problems but the rarity is legend and I love it
1909 SVDB PCGS MS66RD OGH *(HUH? a penny from the GD guy?)* someday this thing is gonna be worth a mint
1937 Buff nickel PCGS PR66CAM Just a "franklin mint" kind of coin, too perfect for a buff but a real beauty
undated old english penny.....my very very very first [old coin] from pre kindergarten. an illustration of how I can manage to keep these things over the years
1913 Lincoln MPL The Red Green Specimen........out of all the matties Ive had...this one is the finest. Luv it
1972 DD Lincoln, found it one hot summer night back in the day, now its slabbed PCGS MS63RB a very sentimental coin for me.
(spot 10 is for the one I dream about...thats not here yet.)
