Does anyone enjoy playing this game?

Me: Hey, nice card in that scan. I have wanted a John Doe rookie for awhile now. Is the card for sale, and for how much?
Him: Make me an offer.
Such a silly game. IMO there are 3 possible responses and the least desirable is the one above. The only 2 respectable replies would be either "Thanks for your interest, but the card is not currently for sale." OR "Sure, I can sell it to you for $xxx, just let me know if you will be paying by check or paypal." I dont understand why some people like to play the "make me an offer" game. Does anyone here enjoy that?

Ok, I offer you $1....your turn.
make an offer. No game there.
Now if the item was for sale and the owner was soliciting offers then it may be a game to some.
If anything the initial inquiry started the game.

some folks thrive on "the game", otherwise it's just buying and selling.....but, when you find a business partner and ultimately conclude a solid agreement, it offers a feeling of more than just completion, you want to go back......a trustworthy business partner is tough to come by these days and i would bet that at least some of the world's more successful people would tell you that.
as far as cards go, yeah sometimes it's healthy to say, "What's it worth to you?"
"Now that I know it really bugs the snot out of people, I'm only going to list stuff as "make offer". I won't sell anything, but I'll giggle like hell everytime I bump the thread, and I'm gonna bump'em a lot. "
I was kinda kidding then, but now I think it's going to be my new thing for sure.

IMO opinion, you made the first move, so the ball was in your hands to make an offer or not. If you really want the card, why is it up to him to give you a price? Doesn't seem like he was asking for offers, you brought it up. I guess he could be equally as ticked about an inquiry on a card that had no offer with it.
"Molon Labe"
If someone asked me if something I had was for sale and I replied with "possibly, make me an offer"
And the offer was ridiculous, especially when I was the one approached in the first place, I'd simply say at that point
"thanks for your offer but I think I'll keep it for now.

If the card was worth $5.00, then I counter-offer. If it was worth $100.00+ then I say goodbye and I hope you find the card. I find that dealing with a wise a$$ never works out.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Did you hear the one about the sadist and the masochist who hooked up?
The masochist said "hurt me!" and the sadist said "no."
