Things about the US Mint that Bug Me

Ok, we have had an opportunity to speak our minds about dealers and collectors. Now it's time for board members to comment about the US Mint.

I find their lack of quality control for collector coins to be a disappointment. My Lincoln chronicals set has quite a few spots. Although nice on a dalmatian, spots on proof coins are a turn off.

Also, their ordering system needs some work. They should staff their phone lines and ramp up their computer system to handle the heavy days that occur on the release date for new coins.

  • I doubt you'll find many that disagree with you, especially the spotting issue. As far as their computer ordering system goes, I doubt that they are going to put a lot of money into hardware when it only gets busy three or four times a year. The mint could help their situation out somewhat by having new releases hit the web at 3AM instead of noon.

  • They ship plats right at the holidays when no one is home for 2 weeks. Never know for sure if they'll be OK, lost and signed for as "delivered" or returned to sender.
