I was at a local estate auction a few weeks ago when near the end I was able to pick up a 2007 presidential dollar 4 coin proof set for $3.00 (add 10% buyers premium=$3.30 so 70 cents under face!). Next set was a 2009 4 coin dollar proof set, someone must have caught on- I had to pay $5 for that one!
I did buy at an auction 6 consecutive $1 bills for 5 bucks. The best I have ever done with collectibles coins would be a 1909-s Indian and a 3 leg buffalo, both in VF for 50 cents each.
LOL...I have sold a bunch of stuff recently on eBay also and it took me a couple of auctions to realize that I needed to start the items at a reasonable price as some of them I undercharged for shipping (just guessing at it) and I ended up losing money.
I think the only way that I could respond to this topic would be if I found an 1856 Flyer on the ground in a parking lot.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
