Hypothetical Question... An auction with a twist.
A hypothetical question for the huddled masses...
Okay, so you bid and win an auction for a designated variety coin in PCGS plastic from a major auction company.
Pictures suck on the auction company website, but you feel confident if the coin has been designated by PCGS and the major auction company has listed the coin and annotated the variety in the listing, then it must be good as a variety. It's also verified through the PCGS website certification verification page as a variety coin.
The coin arrives... and the coin in the holder is not the variety, but a normal non-variety coin.
What would you do?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Steve

<< <i>You didn't get what you paid for .... easy answer. return it.. >>
Yep.
As long as it was listed as the variety, and it wasn't just "me"/"you" looking at the auction pic and "seeing" the variety on our own even though the slab/listing doesn't have it, then I agree....you didn't get what you paid for.
So, if it was designated on the holder, and the auction company listed it, then I would return it and expect 100% refund.
The PCGS may say "mechanical error" for the label, and absolve themselves that way, but the auction company should still be liable for the return, imho.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I guess I'll send it back to the auction company and let them deal with the issue...
Thanks!

<< <i>How can it be a mechanical error if it's listed on the PCGS verification page as the designated variety? I can see a "typo" on the label OR on the verification page... but if it's on both, how can it be a mechanical error? >>
It can still be considered a "mechanical error" - the verification page is merely a confirmation of information from a label that was produced at PCGS and not elsewhere. The coin could have been submitted under a particular/incorrect PCGS coin number, wasn't caught as such and entered that way in the system. Or, the graders might have entered the incorrect PCGS coin number, which ended up on the label and hence, later, the verification page.
