FUN Show Hotels ??

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,492 ✭✭✭✭
I can't seem to find any web pages regarding hotels/motels for the FUN show next month.

Anybody have any ideas or recommendations?

I know nothing about Orlando or the Conv Ctr or even how to get there from the airport.

Is there a web page for the show with perhaps a schedule?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

You didn't mention that you have to use the bathroom across the street at the BP station.

I was just gonna bring a cardboard box, sleeping bag and bottle of cheap red wine. When you do that, passers by toss coins at you! It's a numismatists dream! image

Check out the Hampton Inn, we stayed there and had a free breakfast every morning and it is only two miles from the Convention Center.

if you want to save money and don't mind a 15 minute walk: Quality Inn Plaza, 9000 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819

Cost is about fifty bucks a night, wifi is supposedly free and breakfast is supposed to be $2.99

Rooms are clean enough, not extravagant, and entirely suited for sleeping.

I've stayed at the Econo Lodge which used to be the Best Western. It is farily inexpensive, and it's always been quiet so you could sleep. It has also been renovated which is plus because it it had been getting a bit tacky during last days as a Best Western. I've heard that some of the other inexpensive places have a lot of party people who stay up all night making noise.

Orlando is one of those places where any and all types of accomodations are available, anything from budget motels to campgrounds to very top end resorts. Although on a map plenty of hotels appear to be close by, the area is spacious and spread out. Unless you're staying at a few of the hotels immediately close by (Westin Imagine - where I'm at, Rosen Plaza, Rosen Centre, Hilton, Peabody, etc.) it'll be a bit of a walk between hotel and convention center.

Orlando is the largest rental car market in the world and most people will rent a car when there. If you don't want to do that then taxis and hotel shuttle services are available at the airport. I can't remember how much a shuttle ride costs but figure at least $30 (not including tolls) for the 15-20 minute taxi ride.

There is a show schedule at FUN Website.

  • I came up with these four that are close by, but I don't know if they are close enough to walk to the CC. The Hilton Grand, World Quest, Doubletree, and Embassy Suites. They looked like decent middle range digs. If anyone knows or can recommend one I would appreciate it also.

On the subject of hotels, most of the hotels in the International Drive area are the mid-range variety, more oriented to vacationing families with children. In the area near the convention center the Westin, Peabody and the very new Hilton Orlando are the more upscale places that business travellers are more likely to stay at.

There are multiple Marriotts, Hyatts, Sheratons, Hiltons, etc. in the area, so make sure the place you're planning to book is the actual hotel you had in mind. It's a pain when you thought you booked at one Marriott but in reality made a reservation at another Marriott that's 15 miles away.

There's lots of hotels but if you're not staying at one of the ones real close, then get ready for some walking.

The Ramada, just north of the Conv Center is probably not within walking distance but $30 a day for a car makes it very close.
Room was about $94 a night.

Don't forget that most hotels in the area charge for parking as does the convention center.

Stayed at the Doubletree last year, nice, clean and comfortable but not within walking distance. Short drive to the CC. Reasonable too. Not sure where I'll book this year.
