It's a 1950 Roosie with beautiful rim toning. I just couldn't pass it up.

There is a pic in the the set.

Thanks for looking.

Congrats, that looks like a great set you have going there.

So what happened in 2008? Looks like you missed out on the registry award there.
  • Nice to see that set....

    Nice collection...

I was in first place in 2008, but the completion % was not high enough. That was the only year they did that. I complained that the Complete sets had so many coins that it was unfair to require 75% to get the award.

  • very nice!
i was wondering about the 1916 S which you describe as "nice original satin".

i would like to see pics of that coin if you can post them.

Harry779 - Thanks for looking at the dimes. I guess you are talking about the 16-S Mercury. I don't have pics of all my coins. So far all I have are the ones that the seller had. I got a new camera, but have not learned how to take good pics yet. The 16-S is just a real nice finish that is common for the early Mercs.
  • what color is the 1916S?
i have a 1916 that looks to be a satin or matte coin.its black.the black surface does not show where there is a nick and a slight wear point on the wing tip appears to have the satin finish worn off.
so i am very interested in finding any coins that might look like this coin.
i have never seen any like it and i have searched for a long time.
    is the coin black?

Black? You have a black Mercury dime? That is post mint damage - be it chemical or some other coating. Sorry to tell you that, but it is not a mint product.... and if it was exposed to a severe atmosphere, it has gone through ALL the stages of tarnish, and arrived at the final stage, which is always, inevitably, BLACK. Cheers, RickO
  • It's black but its a very silky, shiny color like other satin coins.
there could be other satin 1916 mercs according to several experts.
some might have been given to special people associated with the mint and the arts commission. There also could be several proofs that are unaccounted for.
i have had the coin since the early 60's.
it is not tarnished.i am sending it in soon to be checked out.

The coin remains EXACTLY as it was in 1963 when i bought it.
i think tarnish would continue to get worse.
The coin has not changed at all in 46 years.
It remains shiny and very beautiful.

Mine is NOT black. I would never like a black coin of any series.

My 16 has the look of the coin in your avatar.
  • i didnt think your coin would be black (satin or matte) because only Philadelphia coins were matte or satin in 1916.
The coin also has a "fin" indicating high press pressure on the coin.

Very high relief and its in almost perfect condition and with full split bands too.
