How does this 3 Leg Buffalo compare to the finest? Grade Revealed

Thanks for all the compliments. Added this coin to my Box of 20 last year. Looked at quite a few other 65's before purchasing and this coin stood out and shouted...Buy me!! Probably need to send it in for a regrade.

Stands leg to leg with........

just a little on the short side.........

leads the herd...?

Looking for some Buffalo experts to weigh in.....now that they're finished with the turkey legs image

Considering Top Pop is 66, I would think this example is at least a 65 (just due to a slightly weaker strike)
  • Leads the herd !!

Very nice coin! My guess is that you will get a 65 due to an average strike. It has a chance at 66.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.
  • Maybe one point shy of 66.

Gorgeous coin. Just a little weak on the strike.

I wish I had one like it in my set but for now, 45 will have to do.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. BTW, I like breast meat!

Outstanding in every way. The obverse is unbelievable for the issue. I don't think they come much better. I'm especially impressed by the fullness of buffalo's hind leg--almost looks like a normal 37-D...

  • I'd say MS65

That's about as good as it gets. If it's a 66, I wouldn't be surprised.

As nice a 3-Legger as I have ever have seen.

    I'm sure its a 65 - maybe a 66 [ someone say a 66 is a POP-ONE ? ]

I do not profess to be able to grade Buffalos however !!

I saw a very similar coin (maybe the same one) offered at Santa Clara in 2006 for $8000.

The coin in the OP is a great looking coin!

Pop report shows 4 in 66. This could very well be one of them. If it isn't, it's one of the best 65's out there.
    I'll come up with something.

The coin has a great look to it, but I am going to guess it graded MS64.
  • I'm about to win a 3 legger off a local auction that may just trump this example for its respected grade. About a week left.

    WOW!!!

If that's not a 66, then I don't know what would be. That's by far the best looking 3-legged Buffalo I have seen!

I get what you're saying, but your comment did prompt me to check the PCGS price guide for the 3-legger:
    MS63: $5,240
    MS64: $10,000
    MS65: $35,000
    MS66: $65,000
With spreads like that, and me being the poor soul that I am, the grade certainly would "matter" to me.image

Cant state it enough I agree one of the finest I have seen wether or not the its numerically graded the highest. I really like that coin!

My guess is a few marks on the Buffalo's back prevent it from a higher grade. But you have a great example that seems worthy of 65 -- thanks for sharing.
