For those going to FUN, a few questions....

How is Saturday?

How is Weds if you have a dealer badge?

Is there a PNG day?

Is getting there Weds afternoon and leaving Sat midday enough?

If you can tell I have some flight issues, trying to figure out what may work. Also welcome thoughts on hotels.

<< <i>How is Saturday? Slow, especially compared to Wed-Fri

How is Weds if you have a dealer badge? Fun, busy, the time will FLY by

Is there a PNG day? no

Is getting there Weds afternoon and leaving Sat midday enough? Usually works for me

If you can tell I have some flight issues, trying to figure out what may work. Also welcome thoughts on hotels. I go for cheap (Choice Hotels), walking distance if you don't mind ten to fifteen minutes >>

Barndog about nailed it. After a weeks worth of auctions and the show itself, most dealers are pretty tired by Saturday. This show is arguably the premier event of the year and as such most of

your serious collectors and dealers attend early, Saturday's crowd is much different I think than the crowd on opening day. Wednesday starts later, but there is a lot of anticipation and

excitement as people are setting up and checking things out, and the open on Thursday is always exciting. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are the best days to attend if you can make it. Lots

of flights into Orlando of course, and I don't know what part of the country you are in, but if in Jersey or PA flying out of Atlantic City is a pleasure, and you can get a pretty good deal on a flight

on Spirit that time of the year. Plenty of hotels around and near the convention center, and reasonable rates if you want to drive 5 mins or so to the convention center, and you can always

book the Peabody or something within walking distance for a bit more.

That's what I did with the last Orlando's FUN show and will do again. Can patrol the bourse for an earlier shot at getting what you want as well as attending the Heritage auctions. If you go, I sure hope to meet you and say hello.

I am planning to arrive Thursday around noon, and leaving Saturday around noon.

I'm thinking of arriving Wednesday night this time, because if I fly on Thursday, I either have to get up before dawn (in January, in Chicago, dressed for Orlando) or I get in late afternoon, unless you refer to my saga of United 1500 from a few years ago where I did both. This way, I leave work early on Wednesday, arrive Wednesday night, go to my hotel, unload my crap, and don't have to carry everything at the show. Flying home on Saturday morning.

As a collector, I am trying to figure out if it is worth going.
Washington State to Orlando is roughly $500 for the airfare. Another ~$100/night for the hotel. Other transportation costs.
That $700 would make a nice down payment on a nice coin.

I'm jonesing for a major show, but, sometimes, I am too logical.

If I do go, though, I will go Weds through late Friday (or Saturday) as I agree, from what I recall when I went before, that folks start disappearing Saturday afternoon.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Depends on how much a person is willing to spend on coins at retail prices. If a person is counting their dollars, and going to their first big show, most offers are going to be at or near retail price. I figure if a person is going to spend at least 10x the cost of attending the show, it is worth it to see the coins in hand. Less than that, and the math doesn't work out to me.
  • I was just looking at hotels in the area. I came up with the Hilton Grand, World Quest, Doubletree, and Embassy Suites. Anyone have any experience at these places? I need a place nice enough to leave my wife at at least one day, but I don't want to spend $300 a night either.

Saturday can be okay if you not looking for any really scarce coins. Some guys are worn out and will not be around. Thursday and Friday are better days.

The dealer badge for FUN is whole lot better than the one for the Baltimore show. Unlike Baltimore most all of the dealers set up, and it is quite active. Thusday can active and hecktic, so Wedsday can be worth if you are looking to spend some serious money.

FUN does not have a PNG day, and I'm happy about that. I made the mistake of going on the PNG day at the one Central States show that I attended. Many of the dealers with I do business could not sell anything for most of the day, and they were not allowed to open until it was almost time for me to go home.

Leaving on Saturday is fine. Sunday is not worth the effort.

In my view the FUN show is #! show of the year by far.
