    I think it may have been punched in unevenly, giving the inpression that it is upside down. But, I have trouble indentifying upside down mintmarks.

    No.

    Its a tilted punch.

    Here is what the 1974-S mintmark looks like. Note the notch on the outside of the upper loop.

    The OP's MM has the same notch in the same location. If it were inverted, the notch would be on the outside of the lower loop.
    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
