Daniel Carr medals graded at ANACS.....UPDATE

NotSureNotSure Posts: 2,982 ✭✭✭
I sent in 3 medals made by DCarr. A proof and unc Denver Mint centennial medal, both in silver (proof mintage of 150, unc mintage of 50), and a '25' Grabener Press medal. Got them to ANACS, good turn around time. The Denver centennials graded PR69 and MS69, while the Grabener Press '25' graded at MS66. Out for delivery today from FedEx. Delivered to wrong house!!!!!! Talk about being PO'ed!!!

FedEx is 'on top of it' (I kinda know what they are on top of), as is ANACS.

What are my chances of ever seeing these again, for those that have had FedEx mis-deliver? They send them direct signature, but the name on the signature is obviously not mine.

Be honest, please. I can't be made to feel much worse than I do now.

UPDATE 12/3:

The GOOD news....

The driver delivered them to my next door neighbor's house, and their babysitter signed for them, hence the unknown name. I have no idea why they didn't bring them over, so I'm more ticked at my neighbor now than FedEx. Most people at FedEx were very professional, but felt handcuffed and didn't know what to do/say....it was up to the driver to recall where he brought them, and he came through big time. He couldn't have been more apologetic, so I'm cool with him, and fully accepted his apology, and made it a point to inform FedEx he corrected a mistake, and he shouldn't be reamed out TOO badly (I mean, it WAS only one house away, but it still shouldn't happen), but maybe just a talking to, as far as addresses, names on packages and signatures are concerned.

NOW for the OTHER side of the story.........

ANACS did NOT use the special 'MoonlightMint', DCarr signed certs...they used those ugly 'pumpkin' colored, regular certs. After calling ANACS customer service, they said 'Ooops', and they'd pay shipping both ways and re-slab at no charge.

Yup, you guessed it....now, I just have to use FedEx both ways again (if I don't want to incur any shipping charges).......the saga continues, stay tuned...
I'll come up with something.

I'll bet you get your coins back. Most people are honest. Besides, FedEx is on top of it and they're pros.

If I were you, I wouldn't sleep a wink until I saw my cool DCarr medals again, but you should sleep well, FedEx will get your medals back for you. They're PROs.
  • FedEx delivered them and got a signature. All is good.
Stop your whining now. Someone someplace is happy. They got some cool stuff for free.

Daniel Carr medals graded at ANACS.....

If you want to give away your money, let me know.

    They were free gradings.

I guess noone else has considered that, now, someone knows my collecting preferrence, and there is now a possible risk for some scumbag to 'pay the house a visit'?
    I'll come up with something.

Yup that there is. But it's likely a small risk. Won't ANACs ship to a PO Box?

Sorry to hear that. Is the "wrong house" one of your neighbors' ? If so, why not just walk over there and get it ?

    Why?

One reason: See reference to "China" in press release below:
Another reason: Maybe NotSure likes to collect in this format ?

    PRESS RELEASE - August 19, 2009 - Englewood Colorado

ANACS and Daniel Carr announce a new program to certify all coins, tokens, and medals
designed and minted by Daniel Carr and Moonlight Mint. Qualifying items are listed in the
Daniel Carr catalog, which is available at: http://www.moonlightmint.com/coin_catalog.htm .
Submitted items must not be larger than 40.6mm in diameter. All collectors and dealers
can submit qualifying items directly to ANACS.

When certified, a special ANACS label will be used which features a Moonlight Mint logo
and a hand-written signature by Daniel Carr.

Services and fees for this program fall under the ANACS tokens and medals submission guidelines.

For more information about ANACS programs, visit www.anacs.com .

Daniel Carr is the designer of the US Mint New York and Rhode Island state quarters,
as well as his own controversial "Amero" fantasy coin series, among others. He currently operates
Moonlight Mint which specializes in the design, sculpting, engraving, and minting of his designs.
His company also goes by the name "Designs Computed". Moonlight Mint uses a Denver Mint
surplus Grabener coin press for striking all issues.

With this new service, Daniel Carr will consult with ANACS regarding all authenticity questions.
This is doubly important now that counterfeit copies of some Daniel Carr coins have appeared
in China and Canada. Descriptions of these fakes are posted on Moonlight Mint's "Alerts" page:
    http://designscomputed.com/coins/fakes.htm

ANACS is a well-known and well-respected provider of coin certification services,
    based in Englewood, Colorado.

I love the Amero's designs and some of the Hard Time token, not all your designs are nice though. JMHO.
But I have to say that those medals are really beautiful, Daniel! image

I like the looks of those medals also. I'd appreciate a PM if someone wants to let me know where they available...and don't tell me that there's a few available at the original poster's neighbors house. image

These (the Denver centennials) have been sold out for quite some time now. As I said in my original post, only 50 Uncs and 150 proofs minted.
    I'll come up with something.

FedEx isnt sure where they were delivered, and the name on the signature isn't any of my neighbors.

Wow, I feel for you. I, too, bet you'll get them back, but I'd also be anxious about it--especially because I, too, love DC's work. I also think getting them encapsulated is a great idea, just to protect them if nothing else.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Contact ANACS and get the cert numbers. Watch ebay for them to show up. With the Cert Numbers from ANACS, you'll be able to prove ownership. EBAY and LEOs can possibly get your medals back.

I haven't had any available since mid-2007, except a couple months ago I took a brass proof-like example (200 minted) in trade.
I sold it on eBay and it went for about $60 (original issue price was $15, later raised to $25).

    Wow, that is horrible.

I recently had someone ship (via UPS) some silver blanks to me here in Colorado. They were delivered (and signed for) in Montana.
UPS was able to get them back and finally delivered them to me (two days late). Maybe FedEx will do the same for you.

When was the offer for the signature certs made available? I sent in a couple of DC 1/10 oz gold "indians" this fall and got the pumpkin certs as well. Good news is one was a Proof 70 and the other a Proof 69. If I can get the sig certs I'd like to try.

Some time around October is when the signature labels first came out. You may have just missed it. You should be able to re-submit.

Glad they were finally located, at least.
  • I got a proof Ocean in View sample slab from ANACS today at the Money Show of the Southwest.
Not exactly a Carr, but it was free.
