The helpful suggestions and questions thread for the new PCGS website - now OK'd by Mr. Willis - see

Rather than subjecting PCGS to numerous threads containing complaints, questions and suggestions concerning their new website, what about a/this thread to be used to as a centralized source? Please note your questions, suggestions (and, if you insist, complaints) here. Oh, and compliments, too. Here is your opportunity to try to help PCGS and yourselves.

Please be patient and understanding, and try to remember that much of what is contained on the PCGS website is free.

Best of luck to everyone.

By the way, there are free on-line dictionaries for those who need to look up strange words such as "patient" and "understanding".image

Posted this reply in another thread:

"I'm not quite sure what you guys are getting all steamed up about. I just checked and the grades I'm interested in, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67 are all still listed. For the in between lower unc grades 60-63 and circs not listed you can always check the Heritage archives, which IMHO are a far better indicator of current pricing anyway as they reflect current prices realized. So explain to me what I am missing??"

As far as I can see I like it. Change is good. The larger fonts are helpful to us guyz with bad eyes, MUCH easier to read.

    john

Edited to add, after all, they are only a guide, as is the CDN. How many times have you paid well in excess of listed guide prices or even multiples in a given grade for an exceptional example? If you are bound by price guides and sheets, you should be dealing in something standardized like bullion or equities, not rare coins.

<< <i>Every year PCGS can take away something else from us that was once free but i won't rejoin as a member of pCGS or pay for Coin Facts until the following happens:

If I don't use my submissions within 12 months I don't lose them, that is so ridiculous of a crazy policy that it was the main reason I never renewed.

I don't like year to year subscriptions, I rather just buy a certain amount of submissions of my choosing at a much more reasonable price than what is offered and I don't want freebees, i just want to become a member which would entitle me to all services ie submissions and coin facts and pop report and I can choose a certain plan ie:

$100 lets says buys 5 submissions of my choosing, 24 views of pop report, 48 views of Coin Facts etc etc. I don't want to join and then have to buy more services, I like one stop shopping with multiple choices and just pay for what I want ie customize at reasonable prices levels/packages.

    thank you,

Comment: The bottom line benefits more by providing information for free than by providing information for a fee. Heritage has proven that point.

I really like the new registry being able to view just the PCGS ERA collections. I just wish that was default and then have the option to look at past collections such as Eliasberg, Bass, Smithsonian etc...

I like UI and I'm pleased over all. PCGS did a very good job. I subscribe to CoinFacts so I have no issue with the price guide.

I do have one major beef: It is no longer possible to move through the pictures in your registry set or inventory by just clicking a <next> or <previous> picture button. Instead, you have to use the browser back button and then find and click the next picture. Arg! What a pain if you want to review your set!

There seems to be a bug in the view/edit set mode. Images and owner comment fields seem to be missing or off the page of view.

I'm surprised that no one has noticed the big increase in advertising on the new Website.
It's a little more subtle because of the new color scheme, but it is still all over the site!!!

In all fairness, the foto grading section, will be more highly used

and appreciated, then the tweener circ pricing.I would rather have

both, but If I had to choose, I would take the grading guide. Non of us

doubt that a great deal of time is spent on the pricing chart, as imperfect

as some believe it to be. At some point, time becomes a money cost that in

    some way must be covered.

Every year PCGS can take away something else from us that was once free

If you are refering to expanded prices they didn't exist a year ago. We just built that.

There are many more developments coming soon.

For $9.95 you can subscribe to PCGS for a month and take a look at everything. There is no requirement to join for any longer.

I have only just glanced at the new website, and it looks very well organized, although still very similar to what was seen yesterday (and previous).

I do have a couple of suggestions which I have noted, and which I don't think anyone else has mentioned:

    1) The color of the main screen - it's too light, and if I were using the site for a long period of time I would fall asleep (it's TOO peaceful). Just to give a slight reference/example, during WWI, when the Red Cross was first established, the color scheme of hospitals was very light, in light blues, yellows and white. This was to make the visit at the hospital more peaceful. This unfortunately had adverse effects on the soldiers who were recovering or in serious condition. Needless to say many soldiers passed-away in higher numbers than expected. When they changed the color scheme to more reds (intense colors), more patients seemed to survive. (I know PCGS isn't a hospital, but I liked the warmer colors before)

Therefore, I would like to see more "intense/warmer" colors, instead of feeling like I'm looking up at clouds on a sunny day.

    2) Photograde, I'm looking forward to the addition of Seated and Bust material (even in just a basic framework)

    3) On the Set Registry, the "Rank" box can shrink in size, and the name of the collection should be expanded. Some collection names seem too crammed in, and it's distracting to read, especially if there are a lot of Award logos next to the set name (i.e. "2009", "2008", "2007", etc)

    That's all for now...

I'm just navigating the new website, and so far I like it, that is once I found the really important link: Here!! I have to agree that the color could be changed a little. It is a little too peaceful. Maybe change it from Carolina blue to Duke blue!!!!image

OK..at first I was quite concerned, strange new website, but also the same in a very weird way. But what made me nervous is where was the link to my beloved message boards? Panic...oh no...where is...anxious moments...and then...there they were...suddenly I was beginning to calm down...yes...not one, not two, not three...but yes...the nine old white male wise men (ok...Miles doesn't look that old)..but there they were the familiar faces of PCGS and not far below these visages appeared the familiar link to my beloved message boards...alas...the more things change, the more they stay the same...all is well in my 'C' Universe once again!

I can not get the aution prices relalized to work. ?

Ah...I see they want $9.95/ month. Will use other sources as suggested.

Dislike not seeing price guide in various other grades than the ones they pick. Will use other sources. Since I strive
to buy PCGS coins...I think they should change this back to free...just my opinion.

    Photograde = excellent! TY!

I like the new website, it looks very professional, and seems easy to use so far. I really appreciate having all the info in CoinFacts in one place, and the photos are fantastic.

My only issue is that when I print the pricing guides, the font on the printed copy is very tiny, even tinier than the Grey Sheet. Don, could you please increase the font on the print version so that us half blind people can read it without a loupe? Thanks!

Initial thoughts as I sit here at home between work/play on the PC during dinner....

    1) The page is TOO BRIGHT. For some of us, we like soothing colors. I honestly can't stay on the page and look at it for more than a few seconds without eye strain. I may not be a majority in this but I can bet most folks like soothing colors.

    2) Layout looks ok on a 17" LCD (but there is a bit of scrolling down that I wish I didn't have to do).

    3) I will join the others about the disappointment in the price request for the "off-grades" in the PCGS Price Guide. I, too, used it as a guideline to purchase PCGS coins. Now, it may impact, in all seriousness, some of those purchases as I may not be able to as easily find guide info and I will pass. This may impact others and impact fluidity of PCGS coins a bit...or, it may not. For me, it will.

The biggest, immediate thing, though is the harshness of the color scheme.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The Photograde is a superb addition. For someone like me, who doesn't have a lot of experience with coins yet, and even less grading them, that will really prove helpfull.

So much so that I bookmarked it directly!

I would like, in time, to see more coin types and grade levels added but even if it stays the way it is right now, it's still an excellent addition. After all, I can't afford to buy the old coins it doesn't cover anyway!

Thanks for the Photograde. Awesome. The Registry has also improved, but I have a suggestion. I noticed that the current top five ranking separate graph is no longer available under the current finest format. I understand that the "View PCGS Era" has replaced it. As an example, under the Carson City Basic Type set 1870-1893, the current top 20 sets are the default setting with the option of all time finest divided by PCGS era in the top five showcase graph. My goal was to make it into the previous separate current top five ranking graph. It provided a visual showcase for the top five current sets. An inspiration to compete under current sets with a top five showcase.

Any chance we can get that back? Maybe as a separate link?

I have a suggestion for the Photograde. How about some coins that would NOT grade, I suppose that means "Genuine" holder only? AND list WHY they would not grade.

Yes, a "Grader's Corner" where pics of actual submitted coins can be posted and commented on by actual PCGS graders. Some tips on the things that add to and take away from a grade. Could be a very good learning tool for the rest of us.

    Don,

The photograde page is fantastic and you have earned more of my respect by making this available to all. I would like to know though if PCGS officially stands behind the grades on those photos? i.e. what happens if we find coins that are obviously over/under graded based on those photos? I know we are supposed to learn early that you can't grade by a photo but I think you know what I mean.

Now - I agree with many of the posters regarding an "all-in" Club Med package that buys everything for the year. Maybe a Double Platinum album! image

Coin Facts looks great but I haven't subscribed and now don't get the intermediate price guide grades even though I'm a Platinum member.

Offer a $299/annual package with 10 free submissions, Coin Facts, the whole shootin' match.

    I'll buy it next year.
